Roon Confirms New Audio Partners and Refines Its Software User Experience

October 29 2021, 00:20
Roon, the innovative music management, discovery and streaming platform, announced an impressive array of over 25 new Roon Ready and Roon Tested devices from audio brands such as Arcam, Astell&Kern, Bluesound, JBL, Mission, Rotel and more. Additionally, the brand welcomed 5 new partners, including British loudspeaker pioneers Mission, whose new LX Connect all-in-one hi-fi system is Roon Tested. Other new partners include Danish audio brands Argon Audio and Avik, and server companies Silent Angel and Zidoo (featuring three 4K UHD media players that are Roon Ready).

All Roon Ready devices, tested and certified by Roon, integrate customized versions of Roon’s RAAT streaming technology directly into their devices, for seamless integration with Roon. And Roon Ready devices are automatically discovered and report their capabilities so that Roon can send content at the highest audio quality they can support, regardless of the file type being played. All Roon Ready devices can be grouped for multiroom playback to create a high-performance whole-home audio system, regardless of brands or feature capabilities.

Among the new devices that are now Roon Ready, Astell&Kern now has seven Roon-compatible devices including the latest Astell&Kern SE200, SE180 DAP and KANN ALPHA portable audio players. The new Arcam ST60 is the company's first-ever dedicated hi-resolution audio streamer with MQA, while the Bluesound Soundbar+ is an audiophile-grade soundbar with Roon Ready. For JBL's 75th anniversary, the Harman brand added the JBL SA750, a modern-retro Class G amplifier with streaming capabilities.

Roon now provides the largest and highest-performance ecosystem for listening to high-resolution music on the widest range of audio equipment. Roon works with audio products as varied as network streamers, DACs, wireless speakers, all-in-one systems, and A/V receivers – at prices ranging from $100 to $100,000.

And Roon is continuously refining and adding features to improve the user experience of its software. New updates to Roon 1.8 include a completely redesigned “Versions” view, making it easier to compare different editions of favorite albums in our own music library, Qobuz and Tidal. Whether a user is looking for an expanded edition with bonus tracks or wants to listen to an even higher-quality version, Roon lets users do this in a couple of clicks.

Also new in the software is one of the most requested features from the Roon community: native control of Roon from the smartphone, even when the screen is locked. Users can now access essential controls (play, skip, pause, volume control) natively from any iOS devices, and also a few Android devices - without going into the Roon Remote app. Gesture controls for iOS users have also been implemented.

Other updates released over the summer are Daily Mixes – six new personalized daily playlists based on the TIDAL and Qobuz listening history; a redesigned TIDAL experience featuring top charts and staff picks; and improved search interface with predictive auto-complete (across artists, albums, tracks, genres, composers and compositions) to make it even easier and faster to get to the music.

Roon is now working with nearly 200 audio brands – including globally recognized names such as Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Devialet, KEF, Harman, McIntosh, and Naim Audio – and supporting over a thousand individual products.
