Roku Expands Roku OS Content and Experience and Launches Roku TVs

Roku announced platform-wide updates for its operating system Roku OS, which is now the #1 selling smart TV OS in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with over 70 million active accounts in the US, approaching half of broadband households. On the hardware front, Roku also announced features and availability for its new Roku-branded TVs, the first TVs designed and made by the company, all offering Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and supporting connectivity to external soundbars and speakers.
The purpose-built Roku OS TV operation system automatically updates with new channel partners, content expansion, feature enhancements, and a new mobile app design. The company says that over the coming months users will find even more updates to Live TV, content discovery, Sports, the Roku Mobile App, and more rolling out in the US this spring. CBS Sports, MLB.TV, NBA App, and NBC Sports will join the roster of supported channel partners of a new Sports experience.

"As the #1 selling OS in three major markets, we understand what people want when it comes to a streaming platform – a simple yet delightful experience that feels personalized to them," says Preston Smalley, Vice President of Viewer Product, Roku. "The latest updates to our powerful OS make Roku's software even more intuitive and curated, so users can spend less time searching for content and more time enjoying their favorite entertainment."

Roku also announced that Roku Select and Plus Series TVs will be available at Best Buy in the US for purchase, with the Roku TV Wireless Soundbar becoming available later in March 2023. This an important product expansion for the company, which already sells streaming players and TV-related audio devices in the US and in select countries through direct retail sales and licensing arrangements with service operators. Roku also offers Smart Home products, including cameras, video doorbells, lighting, plugs, and more, only in the US.

Available in 11 models ranging from 24" to 75" to fit any room or budget, the new Roku-branded HD and 4K TVs are the first ever to be both designed and made by Roku (the company still outsources manufacturing, but the models are from Roku and not relabelled products), aiming to provide a best-in-class streaming experience at an accessible price.

Building on Roku’s TV streaming experience, Roku Plus Series TVs deliver a combination of picture quality, ultra-fast performance, and enhanced features like automatic brightness, wireless sound expandability, Bluetooth Private Listening, Roku’s Voice Remote Pro, and more.

"Our goal is to make everything about a smart TV delightfully simple, from finding the TV that’s perfect for you, to opening and unboxing, to enjoying your favorite movies and TV shows," says Mustafa Ozgen, President, Devices, Roku. "We made purposeful decisions to ensure that our Roku Select and Plus Series TVs embody what users love most about the Roku streaming experience, and we brought in our expertise in picture quality and audio to give consumers an entertainment upgrade at an incredible value."

The TVs feature QLED Technology with an expanded color palette and increased brightness, 4K Dolby Vision, automatic brightness adjustment based on the room’s lighting, local dimming, with Wi-Fi 6 to improve the wireless streaming experience. All TV's are bundled with the Roku Voice Remote Pro with hands-free voice commands, Lost Remote Finder, personal shortcut buttons, and rechargeable battery. The TVs all feature Dolby Atmos certified speakers, designed for clear speech and louder sound, and offer wireless surround sound expandability with the new Roku Wireless Soundbar, Roku Wireless Speakers and Wireless Bass.

The Roku Select and Plus Series TVs are now available in Best Buy stores and online at BestBuy.com.
