Phonak Announces Naída Marvel Advanced Hearing Aid with Universal Bluetooth Connectivity

February 21 2020, 00:15
After surprising everyone at CES 2020 with the introduction of the Virto Black, a fully-connected in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid that combines the breakthrough Marvel hearing technology with the style of a modern hearable, health care brand Phonak is challenging perceptions of hearing aids once again with the world premiere of the new Naída Marvel advanced hearing aid, expanding Bluetooth connectivity and featuring Marvel 2.0 technology including RogerDirect.

Phonak, the hearing aid and audiology solutions company from Swiss conglomerate Sonova, announced the worldwide launch of Naída Marvel, a fully connected, multifunctional super power hearing aid for those with severe-to-profound hearing loss. Like previous generations Marvel devices that connected to iOS devices and lately with virtually any Bluetooth device including smartphones, TVs, tablets, PCs and much more, the new Naída Marvel combines the functionality and convenience that people expect from consumer TWS earbuds with that of a high-quality headphone with a rich, powerful sound.

In August 2019, Phonak introduced Marvel 2.0 technology developed to expand the performance and connectivity of hearing aids. With Marvel 2.0, Phonak also made its RogerDirect technology available to all Marvel hearing aids, while expanding Marvel technology to more form factors. Basically, Roger are wireless microphone devices that improve speech intelligibility in loud noise environments. Placed on a table, it allows users of Phonak hearing aids to hear the conversation at a distance. In early generations of hearing aids, users had to plug an extra receiver and/or audio shoe to receive the Roger signal. With RogerDirect, Phonak eliminated the need for those extra components or accessories needed to receive the Roger signal. In the current generation, integrated Marvel 2.0 technology also gives wearers the flexibility to stream the Roger signal directly into both ears, resulting in almost 10x better-than-normal hearing in noisy situations and over distance.

The new Naída Marvel (also referred to by Phonak as the Naída M. Hearing brands tend to create lots of different designations to their existing products, not mentioning the fact that they have too many skews in their portfolio to accommodate different markets with different price levels) is described as "the world’s first super power hearing aid" because it directly connects to both iOS and Android, or virtually any other Bluetooth enabled audio device, but mainly because it allows hands-free phone conversations and basically receive streaming signals like any wireless headset with the sound quality that is to be expected from a very high end audio product.

“Since the release of its first power hearing aid in 1978, the Phonak brand has been dedicated to creating powerful hearing solutions that deliver excellent hearing performance,” says Jon Billings, Vice President of Marketing at Phonak. Now in its sixth generation, Naída M builds on this legacy with award-winning Marvel technology. The result is Naída becoming the most powerful Super Power multifunctional hearing solution that allows people with severe-to-profound hearing loss to connect to everyone and everything around them.”

The new Naída Marvel model was specifically engineered to address the unique communication needs of people with severe forms of hearing loss. StereoZoom reduces listening effort in noise by 24% versus a non-directional program and even enhances memory recall with 10% more words recalled in noise. Naída Marvel also directly connects to Roger microphones to help improve speech understanding in noise and over distance while remaining 15% smaller and 14% lighter than previous versions that required an external receiver.

Finally, the myCall-to-Text app provides live transcription of phone calls from the other party in more than 80 languages. This is an ideal solution for people who would like to benefit from additional visual captions when using the phone.

Naída Marvel will be available to the public end of February 2020 through licensed hearing care professionals.
