Good news from New Jersey. Orchard Audio has updated one of its original and best-selling products, announcing the release of PecanPi DAC, Streamer, and Streamer Ultra Rev 3.0. The major update for rev 3.0 devices is the addition of a S/PDIF (coax) input, which allows the DAC to be used standalone. The rev 3.0 devices also use lower noise linear regulators and give users the option to have RCA outputs built-in. The Orchard Audio website is being updated to reflect the new models, shipping from March 2022.
The PecanPi Streamer, and Streamer Ultra are networked music players with DAC and headphone amplifier that Orchard Audio introduced originally as finished product versions of its popular PecanPi DAC board using the Raspberry Pi and Asus Tinker Board. The PecanPi Streamer is a high fidelity, plug-and-play, high-resolution music streamer that can be controlled wirelessly from a smartphone, tablet, or computer, while delivering superior results for home listening.
The Streamer can be connected to any existing stereo amplifier, AV receiver, or powered audio system, as well as headphones and is complemented with a choice of software, including Volumio, Roon, PiCorePlayer (Squeeze Audio Device), or moOde Audio. The PecanPi Streamer Ultra is the evolution of the PecanPi Streamer with the addition of a 5" touchscreen on the front of the unit, and all connections on the back, including Ethernet, USB, XLR, RCA, and power.
The PecanPi DAC is a high performance stereo DAC that turns a Raspberry Pi single-board computer into a music player with superb performance, dual DAC chips, and a built-in headphone amp. A solution DIYers have embraced and that can be used also with a variety of software.
The PecanPi DAC is used inside all PecanPi devices as well as the Starkrimson Streamer Ultra and continues to deliver commanding performance offering users a 130dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), 124dB dynamic range (DNR), and 110dB signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SINAD).
The S/PDIF input allows the PecanPi devices and Starkrimson Streamer Ultra to operate as a standalone DAC allowing users to connect them directly to digital transports like CD players, TVs, computers, laptops, and so on. The S/PDIF input has an automatic switch over that takes audio from the S/PDIF connection when there is a valid signal. When no valid signal is available on the S/PDIF interface the device defaults back to streaming.
"At Orchard Audio, we believe that listening should be an experience. With a range of expertly designed, high-performance DACs, streamers, and amplifiers, we’re helping you elevate the sound in your home theater, listening room, or recording studio. As passionate music lovers, we know how important your music is to you - that’s why each of our products is handcrafted in the US with you in mind," says Leonid (Leo) Ayzenshtat, the company's founder, which also manages daily operations from its home base in Succasunna, New Jersey.
