KEF Launches Updated LSX II Wireless HiFi System

June 23 2022, 05:10
KEF has officially launched the updated LSX II wireless speakers, available in 5 finishes. Much more than a simple upgrade from the original launched in 2018, the new LSX II combines the all-encompassing W2 wireless platform from the latest LS50 Wireless II and LS60 Wireless speakers, in a smaller and much more affordable version. Connectivity options are further enhanced by the addition of both HDMI and USB-C, making this an ideal companion for both TV and desktop computer systems.
When Raymond Cooke founded KEF in 1961 from a small Nissen Hut (a prefabricated structure used extensively during the Second World War) in Maidstone, delivering acoustic excellence combined with constant innovation was at the heart of his ambition. But he could hardly have imagined anything close to the LSX II, which are now much more than speakers, to effectively offer a complete self-contained high-fidelity system for the wireless streaming age.

Announced early in June 2022, KEF is now launching the LSX II Wireless HiFi System, offering numerous connectivity options, easy use and a stunning design, in what is basically a miniaturized version of the LS50 Wireless II speakers - a minimal and contemporary design created by renowned industrial designer Michael Young.

Available in five stylish finishes, the LSX II use a version of KEF’s 11th generation Uni-Q driver array specifically designed for this smaller loudspeaker. This signature technology acts as a point source, where the tweeter is placed at the precise acoustic centre of the woofer. This driver delivers an accurate and detailed sound that works particularly well at the nearfield.

Unlike the more powerful LS50 Wireless II, the LSX II have a combined 200 Watts of system power. The tweeter and woofer are powered by their own dedicated amplifiers, and performance is further enhanced by what KEF calls the Music Integrity Engine, which enables the small LSX II to deliver a perfectly timed performance for better clarity and a tighter, more accurate sound.

Using the latest KEF Connect app, users can stream Amazon Music, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Internet Radio stations and podcasts. Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast seamlessly stream audio from compatible devices, whilst Bluetooth expands the options even further. Users can use native apps to stream directly from Spotify Connect, Tidal and QPlay. When using Airplay 2 or Chromecast, users can stream to multiple wireless speakers to synchronize music around the home.

And another update, for the LSX II is the introduction of file support of up to 24-bit/384kHz (PCM), DSD, and full MQA rendering. Alongside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the LSX II speakers also offer comprehensive wired connections, including now HDMI ARC for seamless control using a TV remote, and a high-quality USB-C input, making these speakers as a perfect companion system for a TV system in the living room or as desktop audio system. There are also connections for a turntable, CD player, games console, and many other devices.
And for those who really want to use the LSX III speakers at louder volumes with extra bass, there’s a dedicated output to connect a KEF subwoofer as well.

The KEF Connect app walks users through the set-up, and controls the system and playback navigation. With its powerful Room EQ DSP, the LSX II speakers can be easily fine-tuned to any room and personal taste. 'Normal' mode is designed to talk users through the process with easy questions, while ‘Expert’ mode provides extra customizability. For easy integration of a KEF subwoofer with LSX II, Room EQ includes subwoofer presets.

The KEF LSX II speakers also come with a host of other user-friendly features, including volume settings, sensitivity adjustments, and the ability to designate a wired source to wake up the speakers when audio is played.

Every aspect of the LSX II design has been carefully considered, with an elegant rear control panel and subtle design accents such as color-matched finishes on the Uni-Q driver and ports. This allows any of the LSX II designs to make a statement in any space, including when matched with the S1 floor stand or the P1
desk pad or B1 wall bracket.
The Mineral White and Lava Red models come with matte satin and high-gloss finish respectively, while Carbon Black and Cobalt Blue are clad in a specially designed fabric from Danish contemporary textile designer, Kvadrat. The Soundwave by Terence Conran Edition (pictured above) was one of the iconic British designer’s final collaborations. The version sees the ‘soundwave’ pattern woven into the unique Kvadrat fabric complemented with Conran’s signature blue on the speaker port and driver.

Now available for $1400 USD (sold always as a pair).
