October 20 2023, 00:35
The concept of portable vertical column arrays on top of a subwoofer with built-in mixer and Bluetooth is now established in the market with numerous options. JBL is a leader in that space with the powerful JBL EON ONE, recently updated to the Mk2 model. Now, the JBL Professional catalog was expanded with the introduction of the JBL IRX ONE All-in-One Column PA, featuring an advanced acoustic package, 3-channel mixer and Bluetooth 5.0 audio streaming. The design continues to be easy-to-use, road-tested and great for any type of event of performance.

JBL currently offers this form factor in their concert level systems, with the JBL PRX ONE. And the existing JBL EON ONE Mk2 is a more powerful (400W RMS, 1500W Peak) portable PA system, with a five channel mixer and also comes with Bluetooth 5.0 ($1699 MSRP). Both are recognized already by event organizers, solo musicians, and even education facilities - even rental companies. Harman has now decided to create an entry level model ($1299 MSRP) with improved performance and for that it focused on the column array itself.

The new JBL IRX ONE takes its technology from concert line arrays and vertical columns with directivity control (remember that Harman acquired Duran Audio and owns the Axys Intellivox technology, a leader in that field), resulting in a custom-tuned, C-shaped array on top of the adjustable column. Equipped with six 2" high-frequency drivers, the array delivers clarity, with a wide sweet spot, and seamless front-to-back coverage. Additionally, the 8" woofer employs a bass-reflex design, ensuring accurate low-frequency response down to 40Hz.

Designed to cater to a diverse range of users, the IRX ONE includes a convenient 3-channel mixer with support for the most popular connection types as well as integrated dbx automatic feedback suppression (AFS) and Soundcraft-powered audio ducking. Overall its a lighter package that doesn't take much space when dismounted, and benefits from many small design details that improve upon the experience gained with the JBL EON ONE range.

"What truly sets IRX ONE apart is its plug and play simplicity," said Brandon Knudsen, Product Manager for Portable PA Solutions, HARMAN Professional. "We’ve heard from so many education, hospitality and music professionals looking for a pro-grade system that not only sounds great but is really easy for anyone to use. With IRX ONE, this system does just that. Just plug in your mic, instrument or Bluetooth-streamed audio source and let the music or the presentation do the talking right away without a complicated setup getting in your way."

Weighing a mere 15.5 kg (34.1 lbs), the IRX ONE boasts a road-tough, lightweight cabinet. It’s easy for one person to manage and transport. Easy to carry with one hand, the JBL IRX ONE sets up and tears down in seconds; and the ergonomically-optimized carry handle minimizes wrist strain. Additionally, column spacers and the array cabinet conveniently fit into the back of the base unit.

The IRX ONE features a 3-channel mixer that supports the most popular connections, including 1/4" and XLR inputs with included 48V phantom power and 1/4" balanced mix-out. Using the latest Bluetooth 5.0 audio streaming chipset, the IRX ONE delivers improved audio performance (still SBC only) and longer distance streaming. The new design is also built for durability that includes a 100-hour stress test, stringent road tests, and a complete three-year warranty.
