iZotope Updates Vinyl Effects Plug-in And Its Free

November 20 2020, 00:25
To celebrate its 20th Anniversary, the audio software wizards at iZotope are offering an updated version of its Vinyl plug-in, the first product ever offered by the Cambridge, MA-based company two decades ago. Vinyl is a fantastic effects plug-in, used in countless successful songs, particularly popular for its lo-fi and realistic spindown turntable effects. This vinyl simulation plug-in received new features and a new look and iZotope is offering it totally free!

Released in 2001, Vinyl was the first of many iZotope products that have inspired creativity for hundreds of thousands of producers, engineers and post production professionals. With a modernized user interface to contain the classic, vintage tones of the original, the latest version of Vinyl brings instant audio transformation to creations with visual clarity and style.

With Vinyl, users can give their production a new, nostalgic character in seconds by applying old-school warmth, age-worn dust, or vintage turntable sounds to their music. The latest version features a Lo-fi effect that allows creators to instantly apply the saturated, worn timbre of late-80’s hip-hop and reproduce the character of second-hand records and old-school resampling.

Vinyl offers a realistic way to simulate all the problems with vinyl and turntables, starting with turntable motor mechanical rumble and noise, internally generated electrical noise, such as 60 Hz grounding hum, how worn out the record is, from brand new to played a few thousand times, or the amount of dust, number and depth of scratches on the record. It even controls the amount of warping and the warp shape for the record - from no warp to the edges totally melted and warped.

One of the most entertaining features for all music enthusiasts, is the Record Player Year feature. This allows applying a realistic effect to a perfectly good and clean recording, making it sound as it would in a vinyl pressing played in the year of the record player - from current linear tracking turntables to 1930 phonographs. Of course, it also offers basic features like switching between stereo and mono output and setting the gain in and out of the effect with visual level meter feedback.

"Everything old is new again in this latest update of Vinyl,"  says iZotope Chief Executive Officer Mark Ethier. "As we look back on 20 years of iZotope, Vinyl holds a special place in our hearts as the free plug-in that started it all. To all the Vinyl fans out there, past and present, we're excited to bring Vinyl back into the future for you."

This plug-in is available in AU, AAX, VST2, VST3, all in 64-bit formats, supported by all the most popular DAWs.
