HIFIMAN Debuts DEVA Advanced Active Headphone with Custom Bluetooth Dongle

HIFIMAN is a company renowned for price-no-object, flagship electrostatic and premium planar magnetic circumaural headphones or even high-end IEM's - all wired. Now, HIFIMAN is also offering wireless headphones in the same spirit of pleasing the most demanding music enthusiasts. After launching the flagship Ananda-BT ($999) the company now announced the more affordable DEVA, using a planar driver derived from the Susvara model. The DEVA works in wired or wireless model, with a custom Bluetooth dongle supporting aptX HD and LDAC high-resolution codecs.

HIFIMAN was founded by Dr. Fang Bian in 2007 and, since then, the company developed an extensive selection of high-end audio headphones, digital audio players, and headphone amplifiers. Recently, HIFIMAN started to explore the potential of wireless audio transmission in order to bring differentiated products to market, including support for the recently introduced high-resolution Bluetooth audio codecs and even supporting extreme RF designs for true wireless applications.

Now, the company announced it will soon ship the new DEVA, a high-fidelity open-back planar magnetic headphone that is available with an innovative Bluetooth/USB-C DAC dongle for wirelessly streaming high-resolution audio, retailing for just USD $299.

As one of the company’s new breed of Advanced Active Headphones (AAH) that uses top-shelf components to achieve high-fidelity in affordable personal audio designs, DEVA's user-replaceable 3.5mm balanced input allows for increased power levels and superlative stereo separation when using balanced sources, yet it will extract the best sonics from almost any source, including smartphones, digital audio players, and laptop computers. An included 6.5mm adaptor makes it equally compatible with advanced desktop amplifiers.

“Like its predecessor, Ananda-BT, the DEVA raises the bar for wireless audio but at a moderate price point,” says Fang Bian, the founder and CEO of HIFIMAN Electronics. “No matter if it is used with a wired or wireless connection, DEVA will outperform every headphone in its price class, every time.”

The unique Bluetooth dongle turns DEVA into a powerful wireless headphone, supporting advanced high-resolution codecs such as Sony's LDAC and Qualcomm's aptX HD, making it well-suited to most currently available high-definition streaming devices. The dongle also adds the battery needed to support approximately four hours of playback per charge. This way, when users don't need the wireless transmission, they are not adding the additional weight while enjoying the music.

In addition to its wireless connectivity, the Bluetooth dongle can be used as a powerful integrated DAC/amp for smartphones and other low-power devices, simply by connecting a USB-C cable. A built-in amplifier module provides up to 1 watt per channel, and the two-channel high-fidelity DAC/filter ensures exceptionally detailed sonic output, no matter the source.

As a direct descendant of the Susvara and HIFIMAN’s other advanced planar magnetic headphones, the new DEVA model features the company’s nano-thick diaphragm that delivers lightning-fast response, producing improved detail but ultra-low distortion as well. The frequency response is 20Hz-20kHz, sensitivity is 93.5dB, and impedance is 18 ohms.

HIFIMAN’s DEVA will be available in March 2020 at a suggested retail price of $299.
