Harman Professional Solutions Announces New AKG Lyra Multimode USB Microphone

Harman Professional Solutions announced a new AKG microphone, the AKG Lyra multi-mode USB microphone, designed to be used in the studio for music recording but also for podcasts and consumer recordings like YouTube videos and more. Featuring advanced circuitry that supports 24-bit/192kHz audio resolution, the AKG Lyra delivers an acoustically transparent audio signal using a new AKG Adaptive Capsule Array, which provides user-selectable capture modes optimized for any application.

The new AKG Lyra USB microphone was designed to be a plug-and-play solution that allows creators of all experience levels to start recording quickly, while easily accessible controls provide complete control and seamless ease of use. An internal self-adjusting shock mount minimizes contact noise, while a built-in sound diffuser and AKG’s proprietary Internal Element Overload Prevention automatically reduces noise, eliminates pops and improves signal levels.

The AKG Adaptive Capsule Array uses four versatile capture modes to adapt to performance needs, eliminating guesswork and enabling users to capture audio in a wide range of recording scenarios. Front mode isolates the target sound from distracting background noise by rejecting unwanted sounds at the microphone back and sides, perfect for capturing or live-streaming spoken word, vocals, or close-mic’d instruments.

Front & Back mode captures and blends together sound equally on all sides, which is ideal for face-to-face interviews and duets. Tight Stereo mode captures audio in true stereo with discrete left and right audio, providing great separation for side-by-side interviews or panel discussions, or for recording instruments like drums or piano. Wide Stereo mode captures audio with greater stereo separation, room ambience, and depth. This is ideal for dynamic situations where users want to capture sounds from all around the mic such as documentaries, field recordings, or spontaneous jam sessions.

With no assembly, no need for a separate audio interface and seamless software integration, Lyra works right out of the box and is compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices, so users can quickly record ideas in the studio or on the go, just using a USB cable and pressing go-live or record. The microphone is equipped with a “zero-latency” headphone jack and headphone volume knob that eliminates the short delay between speaking into a microphone and hearing the signal in the headphones, so creators can stay focused on their performance.

Inspired by classic studio microphones like the legendary AKG C414, Lyra features a sleek design that combines fast and easy control with timeless aesthetics. Essential functions like capture modes, volume levels and mute are ergonomically placed and easily accessed right on the mic, so users can stay in the moment while always being in control. An integrated desktop stand with built-in cable management makes it easy to position Lyra on a desktop. The mic can also be mounted to a traditional mic stand or microphone boom arm for more flexibility in the studio.

“The AKG Lyra is a versatile USB microphone that delivers the highest-quality audio in its class. Whether you’re going for a polished, modern sound or a classic vintage vibe, Lyra has everything you need to bring your ideas to life and sound your best — every time,” says Chris Hansen, Director, Recording & Content Creation, Harman Professional Solutions.

The new Lyra will be available from November 2019, includes Ableton Live 10 Lite recording software, and works seamlessly with all major audio and video production software and online platforms.
