Edifier Revives Legendary Audio Brand STAX Using Latest Audeze Technology

June 3 2022, 01:30
Edifier released the STAX Spirit S3, the brand's first wireless premium over-ear headphones and the first product in their new STAX Spirit product line. To create a product suitable for today's competitive market, designed with audio professionals and enthusiasts in mind, Edifier is using patented planar magnetic technologies licensed from Audeze, combined with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound Bluetooth 5.2 platform with aptX HD, allowing for superior performance in wireless, portable headphones, with multi-connectivity.

In 2012, Edifier, a company established in May 1996 in Beijing, China, took full ownership of STAX, a Japanese audio brand and company with a history of more than 80 years and a persistent pursuit of excellence in audio reproduction, best known for developing the first ever electrostatic headphones, or "Earspeakers". The company has always focused on electrostatic technology and has almost become synonymous with electrostatic headphones. The new Edifier S3 continues in this tradition and builds upon the name's renowned legacy and pursuit of faithfully reproducing a 'live' sound.

Audeze LLC is the California-based high-end audio manufacturer that has gained a global reputation for its planar magnetic drivers and range of high end headphones that are able to deliver the most accurate sound reproduction available today. Today benefiting from a state of the art manufacturing facility, Audeze is able to match its already recognized quality with precision and consistency in higher volume production. This enabled Audeze to successfully launch products in other product segments, including gaming and studio reference headphones, or to establish licensing deals and relationships with other brands - a successful example of which can be found in the Drop THX Panda Wireless Headphones.

Audeze products, engineered with the latest innovations in materials science and cutting edge planar magnetic technology also combine a range of patented technologies, such as Fluxor, Fazor and Uniforce that Edifier licensed from Audeze for the STAX Spirit S3 headphones. The advanced planar magnetic design in these headphones uses relatively large -  89mm by 70mm - drivers, combining Audeze' Fluxor magnetic structure and customized neodymium magnet, low-distortion Uniforce structure, and Fazor phase management. With Fazor, sound waves generated by planar magnetic diaphragms pass through magnetic structures without disturbance, preserving timing details in the recorded signal. This ultimately results in cleaner sound, greater resolution, and better imaging.

Inspired by the delicacy of exceedingly more precise electrostatic technology, the Edifier STAX Spirit S3 achieves a level of audio fidelity previously unheard of at this consumer level ($399.99). According to Edifier, Audeze's planar magnetic drivers combine the benefits of dynamic and electrostatic drivers to achieve exceedingly detailed lower frequencies and clearer, more consistent high frequency performance. To deliver the latest level of convenience and the highest wireless audio quality, Edifier combined Qualcomm's Snapdragon audio technology, enabling to offer hi-res aptX HD Bluetooth transmission and superior communications, plus a variety of advanced EQ and processing features.
With a total weight of approximately 329g, the Edifier Spirit S3 headphones are also much lighter than traditional planar headphones and boast a carbon fiber casing to ensure a comfortable fit and extended durability. The weight includes the high-capacity lithium battery that is able to last a mighty 80 hours, and is able to receive 11 hours of playtime in a short 10-minute charge giving 11 hours playtime. And to allow for all day use, the S3 headphones come with an additional set of cooling-mesh, lambskin leather earpads.

The combination of Snapdragon Sound audio technology with planar magnetic headphones, also delivers the ultimate listening experience. Apart from a more robust Bluetooth radio and aptX HD support, the STAX Spirit S3 can be paired with two different Bluetooth devices, effortlessly switching between music, gaming or phone calls. And in addition to the Bluetooth connection, the STAX Spirit S3 headphones also come with an Aux-in cable and a 3.5mm to 6.35 adaptor for wired connection.
