Discover the York High Fidelity Phono Preamp by Six Acoustic on Kickstarter

April 13 2020, 00:25
It must be tough to have a product ready, a Kickstarter campaign planned, and then being faced with a global shutdown. That is what happened with Canadian company, Six Acoustic, who recently launched the York, an "ultra" high fidelity phono preamplifier targeting new generations of vinyl enthusiasts looking for an extra level of audio performance that doesn't cost a fortune. And what is “ultra” high fidelity you might ask? According to Steve Meszlenyi, the company founder, it's a level of transparency where noise and distortion are “undetectable to the human ear and nearly impossible to measure with the most sophisticated instrumentation.”

For the Love of Music in the time of Coronavirus, that's the Six Acoustic appeal for anyone looking to support its Kickstarter campaign and invest in a great phono preamp Made in Canada. After more tan 25 years designing amplifiers, the Toronto area company has introduced York, a phono stage for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges, with the amplification needed to output a line level signal from any turntable and connect it to a power amplifier.

Six Acoustic promises that the York was designed with a level of specifications that will please "connoisseurs of vinyl recordings who want their music to sparkle," and at the same time help bring those vinyl collections to life when some may be spending more time at home due to current events. "The York delivers performance in line with elite high end phono preamps without the elite price tag. The components implemented in the York are selected from the finest available and boast "Ultra" high end performance," Six Acoustic says.

Although new in name, Six Acoustic combines decades of audio industry experience and their goal is to design a complete line up of high end audio gear with exquisite parameters, and "expand the breadth and reach of Canadian made audio tech right out of the Durham region."

Six Acoustic is sourcing as many local components and services as possible with research and fabrication locations in Ajax and Oshawa, just outside Toronto. The company also intends to draw on local talent and manufactures its own designs in-house “without the compromises in performance or craftsmanship often arising from the long arm of overseas fabrication” says Steve Meszlenyi.

And the Kickstarter campaign was promoted precisely to help Six Acoustic get there. The campaign ends already on April 19 and there will be a limited first production run of 100 units, tentatively scheduled for June 2020, with each York preamp selling for 349 Canadian Dollars (approximately 250 USD).
