Cambridge Audio launched the Evo One, a fully integrated wireless streaming speaker that is powerful, stylish and offers extensive connectivity. In the best tradition of the all-in-one music systems of the sixties and seventies, the British brand created a signature product, designed by Ged Martin, taking the hi-res streaming smarts of its Evo 75 and Evo 150 streaming amplifiers, combined with 14 perfectly tuned drivers and 700W of amplification to create a unique omnidirectional audio experience.
According to Cambridge Audio, the room-filling, wide-dispersion sound generated by the Evo One will be an appealing solution to complement the company's StreamMagic Gen 4 technology, which offers direct streaming from Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Deezer, Qobuz, Roon Ready and Internet Radio, plus AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5 and Google Cast wireless connectivity. On the wired front, the Evo One also delivers all the options for today's homes, with HDMI eARC, optical digital input, aux in, Ethernet, USB, and even an MM phono stage for a turntable. Inside this all-in-one streamer and speaker there is an advanced DSP engine that is able to deliver room-optimization features, plus a 7-band EQ to hone the sound for every taste and space.
Probably the most outstanding feature, in line with modern streamers that are now trending, is the large 6.8" color screen, where users can select between having VU meters, album artwork or a clock display. All these features are designed to maximize the experience and the ability to listen easily to almost any music service, powered by Cambridge's StreamMagic platform, which is also the engine for its network players including the CXN100 and MXN10.
"Our aim was to distill our decades of expertise in sound and streaming into a user-friendly, one-box experience. Evo One achieves all that and so much more. Aesthetically as well as sonically and functionally, it truly enriches every space and occasion," says Matt Dore, Chief Technical Officer of Cambridge Audio.
This all-in-one audio solution becomes a convincing proposal also due to its unique speaker design, with 4x 1" silk dome tweeters, 4x 2.25" aluminum cone midranges, and 6x 2.75" long-throw woofers. This array of 14 drivers surrounds the Evo One in front-, side- and rear-firing configurations to deliver a wide sound dispersion and a truly expansive soundstage. Meeting the needs of modern homes and allowing users to take the music anywhere, the Evo One is intended to be omnidirectional and not restrict listening to a sweetspot. The advanced signal processing delivers the unified response from the speaker array. As Cambridge Audio explains, the intention was to deliver clarity and deep controlled bass, allowing the Evo One to defy the limits of the one-box form factor.
Within the StreamMagic control app, users are able to personalize the audio even more, tweaking a seven-band equalizer manually, or selecting from existing presets tailored to multiple music genres and TV-watching scenarios. The room-optimization features in the app enable users to adapt the sound manually to their unique living space.
The 4th generation of StreamMagic, Cambridge Audio's streaming platform supports up to 32-bit/192kHz hi-res audio over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, with an optical digital input and USB-A media socket providing further digital options. As Cambridge owns and develops the StreamMagic platform itself, new features and services are regularly added to improve and increase its functionality. To share music across devices all around the home, Evo One is fully compatible with Google Home, Apple AirPlay and Roon multiroom systems.
While all of Evo One's functionality can be accessed via the StreamMagic app, and the HDMI eARC connection enables simple volume control through a TV remote, a dedicated remote control is supplied to ensure complete ease of use for anyone in the room.
The minimalist retro-modern aesthetic by London-based designer Ged Martin provides the refinement that makes the Evo One fresh and yet undeniably part of the Cambridge Audio Evo family. Clean lines, a timeless feel, and an undeniable air of luxury. Thanks to a beautifully figured real walnut veneer (FSC-certified), the top of every Evo One is unique. The innovative grille construction, inspired by natural honeycomb forms, protects the drivers while placing less mass in front of them to avoid obstructing the sound. This structure is then covered with acoustically transparent fabric.
The new Cambridge Audio Evo One is available now, priced at USD/EUR $1499.
