May 20 2021, 01:10
Bang & Olufsen seems unstoppable this year. Short after unveiling two new flagship home speaker designs, the Danish company now introduced Beosound Explore, a tough and robust Bluetooth speaker, developed to be lightweight, waterproof and with excellent playtime. The perfect durable, outdoor speaker featuring Bang & Olufsen’s signature sound, and a stunning Scandinavian design, the Beosound Explore offers True360 omnidirectional sound anywhere.

The new Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore speaker was designed with a grab-and-go shape, optimized weight, and integrated carabiner clip, that all make it extremely portable. Despite its durable outer shell, the speaker is lightweight at 631 grams. Its unique cylindrical form, together with high-performance drivers and amps, deliver the power and acoustical volume necessary for playing music outdoors.

Wrapped in a hard anodized aluminium shell, its surface is scratch and corrosion resistant, and the entire speaker is certified fully dust and waterproof. And offering up to 27 hours of battery life (with full charge in just 2 hours), the Beosound Explore is a strong premium contender in the portable Bluetooth speaker segment, with an updated Bluetooth 5.2 module that also supports uses as a speakerphone, USB inputs and outputs that effectively allows using it as a streamer, and USB-C for charging and streaming.

And with this updated hardware, the Beosound Explore offers fast pairing with any Bluetooth devices from Apple, Google or Microsoft. No microphones and no voice assistants are built-in for improved privacy, but support for voice control is still possible through smartphones os external paired devices. Multipoint connection is also possible with up to 2 devices, while the Bang & Olufsen app allows full customization of the frequency curve and five sound presets.

Inside the Beosound Explore design, Bang & Olufsen fitted dual 1.8” full range drivers, which are able to deliver 59dB in the bass frequencies, despite its compact size. The two speakers are powered by a Class-D 2 × 30W module. Frequency response goes from 56 to 22.700 Hz with a maximum loudness of 91dB (SPL)measured at @1 meter. The grill is cut in 360-degree lines to ensure true omnidirectional sound - True360 - making it an ideal solution for small social gatherings outdoors or use in smaller rooms around the home.

“Beosound Explore is the first speaker on the market to feature Type 2 anodised aluminium for improved scratch resistance, making it the perfect speaker for outdoor activities. Created at Bang & Olufsen’s Factory 5 in Struer, Denmark, the anodization is achieved by building up the aluminium oxide on the surface”, explains Christoffer Poulsen, Bang & Olufsen SVP of Product Management.

“The speaker features an aluminium carabiner so that you can tightly hang the speaker from a rucksack whilst on long hikes. Together with an integrated strap for hanging, Beosound Explore is extremely versatile, delivering excellent performance no matter where it is placed. Whether hiking or camping outdoors, the IP67 Dust and Waterproof rating protects the speaker if it accidentally gets wet,” he adds.

Reminiscent of forests, glaciers and fjords typically found in Scandinavian landscapes, the new Beosound Explore was designed with Black Anthracite, Green or Grey Mist finishes for an understated and natural aesthetic. The aluminium shell feels special to touch and features a simple and intuitive user interface on top of the product for excellent visibility which is also easy to use with gloves on for colder conditions.

The Beosound Explore in Black Anthracite and Green ($199 USD/EUR) is available now in Bang & Olufsen stores and online, with the Grey Mist finish available during Summer 2021.
