Audix Introduces PDX720 Signature Edition Dynamic Vocal Microphone

April 24 2023, 00:35
Unveiled at NAMM 2023, the new Audix PDX720 professional dynamic studio microphone is an important expansion for the company's catalog, adding a flagship studio microphone. The PDX720 is designed for the most demanding studio recording applications in commercial and project studios, but could see valuable use in professional podcasting and voiceovers. According to Audix, the PDX720 excels on vocals, drums and musical instruments capture.

At NAMM 2023, Audix had the opportunity to showcase its multiple new products that were launched over the past years, while also introducing a brand new studio microphone. Audix was showing their full line of studio recording and live sound microphones with special areas of their booth devoted to interactive listening, live stage setup and home studio for attendees.

In the Interactive Listening Area, attendees could experience two vocal sessions, both female and male, and hear three large diaphragm microphones from various brands, including the Audix A231 large diaphragm condenser vocal mic. And attendees could also listen to a grand piano session with four stereo matched pairs of premium studio microphones from different brands - including the Audix SCX25AMPs and Audix A127s. The Home Studio area featured a recording studio desk setup with monitors, where users could test and record using various Audix microphones used for recording, and showcasing the new PDX720 vocal studio microphone on lead and backing vocals and spoken word applications.

According to Audix, the PDX720 sound signature finds its roots from the company's ability to produce natural, smooth vocals with great low-end extension, even without active filtering. The microphone’s standard default gain level eliminates the need for preamp boosts. The PDX720 also features two unique three-position switches that enable users to quickly modify sound by adjusting the low cut and presence boost, minimizing the need for complex sound mixing adjustments.

"My favorite setting was with all the switches in the ‘off’ position, vocals sounded more natural and it gives you a great template to mix, very smooth on the top, great low-end extension without being boomy; it’s very pleasant sounding," said JC Fredrickson, audio engineer and theater technician.

Beyond vocal recording, the PDX720 is also suitable for use in drums and acoustic musical instruments recording, making the PDX720 a versatile tool for studio professionals and home recording applications. "Having one microphone that excels in many sources is a plus," adds Fredrickson.

The new PDX720 is a dynamic microphone with hypercardioid polar pattern, able to withstand ≥135 dB maximum SPL levels. Audix intended to make the new microphone standout and is offering it in a Signature edition in black and gold finish, together with a standard model in aluminum and black finishes.

The new PDX720 is designed, machined, assembled and tested by Audix in Wilsonville, Oregon, using the highest quality components and premium solid materials to ensure reliability and avoid any quality compromise. The PDX720 is the latest addition to the Audix portfolio of studio microphones, which also includes the recently launched A231 condenser vocal microphone.

The PDX720 will be available to purchase from the beginning of May 2023 in the US, being available globally in July. Audix products are now available through Videndum Media Solutions, a division of Videndum, in 11 markets across the world, as well as many other markets through the brand's network of qualified retail partners.
