Alta Audio Announces Alyssa Compact Home Speaker

July 6 2020, 00:15
Alta Audio, the Huntington, NY, -based company devoted to home audio loudspeakers using its own advanced technologies, has announced that it will soon deliver Alyssa, a new loudspeaker model that combines compact dimensions with a detailed full-range and natural bass response, typically associated with significantly larger floor-standing speakers. Standing only 14.5” H x 9.6” W x 14.25”, and weighing 28 lbs., the new Alyssa (SRP: $5,000/pair) speakers use proprietary drivers and offer exquisite natural-wood finishes.

Founded in 2013, Alta Audio is the creation of Michael Levy, an industry veteran with over 30 years of designing and building hi-fidelity speakers, always targeting an exceptional reproduction of live and in-studio recordings. Exploring its own concept of Extended Transmission Line or XTL, Levy perfected a geometry that it claims, allows it to "tune" cabinets and the  bass response like musical instruments.

For the new Alyssa compact model, Mike Levy integrated a proprietary ribbon tweeter with Alta Audio’s proprietary midrange/woofer featuring a titanium former. The result, it explains, is overall improved frequency response and smooth dynamics that are able to expose the most minute details of a well-recorded piece of music.

“Alta Audio is devoted to the design and manufacture of speakers that immerse listeners in their favorite music,” says Levy. “Alyssa is one of our greatest achievements in that we created a model that ranks with the most respected full-size speakers, yet it’s no bigger than the average bookshelf monitor. I’m floored every time I hear it.”

Alta Audio’s 2.5" ribbon tweeter is responsible for the exceptional clarity and dynamics that stand out for being precise and fast with a flat high-end response that extends over an octave above the scope of human hearing. The 6” woofer includes a 3.1” diameter long-throw voice coil that employs a neodymium hybrid high-powered motor and a titanium former for smoother airflow that blends seamlessly with the ribbon tweeter, resulting in standard-setting bass response.

“The benefit of using titanium in the construction of a woofer can’t be overstated,” says Levy. “It adds stiffness and is exceptionally light, allowing for a larger voice coil that ultimately contributes to a demonstrable improvement in sonics, especially when listening to analog and high-resolution digital recordings.”

Aesthetically, Alyssa speakers are unique, with a rounded top and curved sides, combined with the option of customizing the exterior with a choice of veneers, including Rosewood and Beech that run across the top and down the side to create the appearance of a single piece of wood, in addition to the standard high-gloss piano black. To ensure the cabinets are free of resonances, Alta Audio uses its own exclusive DampHard multi-layered, multi-density material.

Alta Audio confirms that Alyssa speakers will be available through authorized dealers and the company’s own web store beginning September 2020.
