Acon Digital has released version 7 of their audio editor Acoustica, rewritten from scratch for cross-platform support, now running on both Macintosh and Windows PCs. The new user interface comes with a modern dark theme and appears crystal sharp on retina style displays. Major new features include spectral editing, new integrated processing tools, EBU / ITU compliant loudness metering and normalization and surround format support.
Acoustica 7 is available in a Premium Edition and a feature limited Standard Edition. The Premium Edition supports multi-channel formats up to 7.1 surround and a new spectral editing mode allows precise audio restoration work since processing can be limited to isolated regions in time and frequency. Powerful restoration tools such as DeClick, DeClip, DeNoise and DeHum based on the award winning Acon Digital Restoration Suite are seamlessly integrated along with Acon Digital's plug-ins Equalize, Verberate and Multiply.
Also new is a set of tools for dynamic processing. Limit is a brick-wall limiter and Dynamics is a combined compressor, expander and gate. Both tools have sophisticated algorithms with adjustable look-ahead for maximum transparency and up to four times oversampling. Multiband Dynamics is a multiband version of Dynamics with separate processing in four bands and adjustable cross-over frequencies and filter slopes. The new Dither tool offers dithering with novel and flexible noise shaping options. The accuracy of the included Phono Filter that emulates analog emphasis and de-emphasis circuitry has been greatly improved and presets for RIAA, vintage equipment and CD / DAT emphasis curves are included.
Third party plug-ins in the formats VST, VST3 and Audio Units (Mac only) are supported. Processing chains can include both internal processors and plug-ins, and the entire chain along with parameter settings can be saved for later use. A powerful batch processor is included which processes and converts a large number of files or even entire file structures without user interaction.
A large range of real-time metering tools are included, such as a spectrum analyzer, peak and true peak metering, phase correlation metering and EBU R 128 and ITU-R BS.1770 compliant metering. The updated Normalize tool now supports normalization of the maximum true peak as well as the integrated loudness according to ITU-R BS.1770 with adjustable absolute and relative gate thresholds.
Like its predecessor, Acoustica 7 has dockable window panes so that users can set up the workspace according to own preferences. Multitrack sessions offer basic multitrack editing with track, master and send effects, clip cross-fades and automation curves. Redbook compatible audio CDs can be created within the application.
Acoustica 7 is available in a Premium Edition ($199 USD) for advanced users and a feature limited Standard Edition ($59 USD) for beginners. Acoustica 6 users can upgrade for the price difference during a limited time period.
