dbx introduced four powerful new additions to the dbx Di and CT lineup of products. Ideal for even the most demanding live sound and studio applications, the new dbx Di4, Di1 and DJdi direct injection boxes, and CT3 and CT2 cable testing accessories are essential tools in producing a perfect performance and useful to many potential users.

Unveiled at the Winter NAMM 2016 and now reaching the market, the new dbx range of direct injection boxes are essential tools for multiple audio applications and a welcome refresh of one of the brand’s most popular items, combining clever features at affordable prices. At the same time, the new cable tester range from dbx is probably one the most unexpected but certainly useful ideas coming from the brand, especially considering the features available in this new accessory line.

The new dbx Di4 four-channel direct box easily solves the problem of converting unbalanced signals into balanced output suitable for use with mixers, PAs, recording consoles and more. The Di4 also functions as a multi-channel stereo line mixer. This feature allows users to connect their keyboards, samplers and modules into one unit and supply independent XLR balanced outputs to the front of house engineer, as well as set their own independent mix for stage monitoring.

Built for toughness and reliability, the compact dbx Di1 has all the features of a gig-ready workhorse Di unit in the most popular format. The Di1 is a compact, high-quality active direct injection box that ensures that all audio signals reach their intended destination in both a balanced format and free from noise. The Di1 features a Level and Impedance matching function, Signal Pass Through, Phantom Power, Ground Lift, an impressive 10Hz to 70kHz, +0dB/-3dB frequency response and much more.

The 2-channel passive DJdi is designed to be used as a standard tool for many audio applications. Offering two channels, the DJdi easily solves the problem of converting unbalanced signals into balanced output suitable for use with mixers, PAs, recording consoles and more. The DJdi’s continuously variable input signal attenuator can accommodate a wide range of signal levels and its passive design means clean, quiet and uncolored operation with no power required.

Cable testers
We all know how frustrating and time consuming it can be when your audio cables fail. dbx designed two new cable testing solutions for any type of applications, from simple hifi setups and demo rooms, to studio, tour and portable use.

The dbx CT3 is an advanced cable testing unit allowing users to evaluate a large variety of cables with ease. The CT3 split design allows users to test the cable at the plug-in source saving time and potential confusion. It can be split into 2 parts, a SENDER and RECEIVER so preinstalled and long cables can be tested. The CT3 offers many common connectors - up to 8-pin cables - such as RJ45, RJ11, MIDI, Speaker Twist, XLR, RCA Phono, BNC, DIN, TRS, TS, DMX and Banana. The CT3 even features a test tone generator and a ‘Banana’ connector continuity tester with beeper and LED indicator.

The easy-to-use CT2 offers many common connectors such as Speaker Twist, XLR, Phono, BNC, DIN, TRS, TS, DMX and Banana. The CT2 allows for testing cables even with different connectors at each end - for example, it is simple to test a TRS to XLR cable. With well illuminated LED indicators and a simple rotary dial, users can quickly establish whether a cable is wired and functioning correctly, or if it is dead and in need of repair. Featuring a 6-position rotary selector with individual LED’s for up to five pins plus internal battery life check it also features a ‘Banana’ connector continuity tester with beeper and LED indicator.
