April 2010 Voice Coil), I examined the topic of loudspeaker sensitivity and how it may or may not relate to the overall sound pressure level (SPL) produced by a loudspeaker. The output capability of the amplifier driving the loudspeaker is of equal importance to achieving the target SPL from the direct field of a loudspeaker. NI Announces High-Speed, High-Resolution, High-Voltage PXI Oscilloscope with User-Programmable FPGA

National Instruments (NI) announced the PXIe-5164 oscilloscope, which delivers 100 Vpp maximum input range at 1 GS/s and 14 bits. The PXIe-5164 features 400 MHz of bandwidth, 250 volts of measurement range and is built on the open, modular PXI architecture, and includes a user-programmable FPGA to help aerospace/defense, semiconductor and research/physics applications that require high-voltage measurements and high levels of amplitude accuracy.

Audio Precision Releases Updated Android Smartphone Audio Test App

Audio Precision announced availability of the latest version of their Android audio test app, with support for Android versions 4, 5 and 6 (as well as Android N Developer Preview 5). The app allows fast, automated evaluation of new phones and tablets, including hands-free Bluetooth audio test without requiring the initiation of a phone call, saving developers’ time and ensuring that measurement results aren’t impacted by network performance.

New Dedicated Headphone QC Analyzer from LoudSoft

Following a preview earlier this year at the ALMA International Symposium and Expo 2016, in Las Vegas, Danish audio test and measurement specialist LoudSoft has now simultaneously released its new dedicated headphone/earphone hardware analyzer, FINE Hardware 2 with its new headphone/earphone QC software, FINE QC/Headphone. The solution is able to is able to test a headphone in 1 second, including Left-Right difference and Rub & Buzz for both, and the test cycle can also include Noise Cancel Test, both passive and active, in less than 10 seconds.
