Renowned audio speaker design, David W. Gunness, now with Fulcrum Acoustic, and previously with Electro-Voice and Eastern Acoustic Works, is no stranger to this field of research where he holds numerous patents.This review is a fascinating read, especially given that Fulcrum has already proven the validity of the proposed designs in actual products. It seems clear that Gunness achieved “a very good design that should advance the art in the category of cardioid devices,” as Croft notes.

AudioControl Home Audio Division Acquired by AVPro Global

AVPro Global, a company that started as a distributor, and evolved to create its own brands of audio/video installation products, display calibration and HMDI cables, has announced the acquisition of the Home Audio division of AudioControl from AAMP Holdings, an aftermarket car audio company from Florida who had acquired the Seattle, WA company in April 2022. AVPro Global says that the AudioControl Home Audio Division makes sense in its strategy to accelerate its business in residential and commercial distributed audio and media rooms.

SubZone Subwoofer Placement Optimizer App Now Available

British start-up Sonic Baume has launched SubZone – a mobile app that finds the optimum position for a subwoofer in the room using acoustic simulation. Once the user enters some simple details about the room and listening position, the app predicts the effect of room modes for every possible position of the subwoofer. It then presents a heatmap of the room showing where the user should aim to put the subwoofer, and where to avoid placing it.

Patent Review: An Advanced Loudspeaker System

This article examines a notable patent from VUE Audiotechnik, describing a loudspeaker system with one driver providing a direct radiating output from the front, and a second driver on a ported side chamber, sharing a ported common chamber, where at least one port of the ported common chamber exits the front of the loudspeaker system. As Croft notes, this is an innovative advanced system - that was patent-pending at the time - and provides a unique combination of technology, offering real-world advantages. The patent was granted in 2021.
