Fraunhofer IIS confirmed the release and official adoption of the MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile. The new profile was designed to exactly meet the business and technical needs of the industry and was announced during the MPEG WG11 131st meeting. Tailored for broadcast, streaming, and high-quality immersive music delivery use cases, the MPEG-H 3D Audio Audio Baseline profile supports channel and object signals and is a subset of the existing Low Complexity profile.

Fraunhofer IIS announced the licensing of its xHE-AAC and MPEG-D DRC software implementation to Microsoft Corp. Consumer devices powered by the latest Android, and Apple operating systems all support the most efficient AAC codec with mandatory MPEG-D DRC loudness and dynamic range control metadata – delivering a seamless streaming experience on any device in any environment. A rapidly growing number of platforms and playback devices already support xHE-AAC decoding natively, and now Microsoft can join the improved experience.

Naim Audio announced native Qobuz support for its Mu-so 2nd Generation family of wireless speakers. Enabled via a free over-the-air firmware upgrade, the integration will enable seamless access to Qobuz streaming services - including true high-resolution music streaming - from within the Naim control app. The update was rolled out to all Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation units from June 15, with Mu-so 2nd Generation users being able to update from June 17.
