USB-IF Introduces Fast Charging to Expand its Certified USB Charger Initiative

During CES 2018, USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, announced that it will expand its Certified USB Charger Compliance and Logo Program to include Certified USB Fast Chargers. Certified USB Fast Chargers support the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) feature of the USB Power Delivery 3.0 specification.

In fact HDMI 2.1 is a huge leap forward, introducing a new Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable, which also supports Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), multichannel uncompressed 24-bit/192 kHz audio, and support to advanced audio formats - including DTS Master, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos and more.

The Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA) Association, an industry group dedicated to bringing high resolution, wireless, multi-channel audio products to the home theater market, announced HARMAN International as its newest member. Will this signal a comeback for what it was a great technology proposition? It was successfully implemented and is still used by Bang & Olufsen and Klipsch, among other companies. And the audio industry certainly needs it.

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group announced the pending release of the USB 3.2 specification, an incremental update that defines multi-lane operation for new USB 3.2 hosts and devices, effectively doubling the bandwidth to extend existing USB Type-C cable performance. During the upcoming USB Developer Days 2017 event, the promoters will provide detailed technical training covering USB 3.2, fast charging advancements in USB Power Delivery, and other topics.

IEEE Publishes 802.11ah-2016 Standard Amendment Extending Range and Improving Energy Efficiency in the Sub 1 GHz Band

IEEE and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) announced the availability of the IEEE 802.11ah-2016 standard amendment, providing for an extended range Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) in the sub 1 GHz band. IEEE 802.11ah-2016 significantly lowers propagation loss through free space, walls and other obstructions, and offers a networking alternative to augment the heavily congested 2.4 GHz band and the shorter-range 5 GHz band used today. This is critical for smart home and many other applications.

HEAD acoustics Test Equipment Allows HD Voice+ Logo Certification According to new GSMA Standard

The GSM Association (GSMA) has now specified test methods to assess the minimum performance requirements for allowing manufacturers of LTE mobile terminals and network providers to make use of the HD Voice+ (High Definition Voice+) logo. Combining HEAD acoustics' advanced communication quality analysis system ACQUA with the measurement front end MFE VIII.1, plus codecs and software options, manufacturers will be able to test their systems for the new Voice+ certification.

InfoComm International, the trade association representing the commercial audiovisual industry worldwide, announced the release of the updated standard Audio Coverage Uniformity (ACU) in Listener Areas (ANSI/INFOCOMM A102.01:2017). With advancements in technology and continual audio coverage problems, InfoComm considered it was important to produce an updated version of the ACU standard, which was first released in 2009.
