Swiss manufacturer Merging Technologies has signaled two major anniversaries for the company by introducing major product releases. The most respected of all digital audio workstations, Pyramix celebrates 25 years with a major software release that improves its Dolby Atmos workflow, introduces new packs and prices, and a new activation system. And because Merging Technologies is also celebrating its 30th anniversary, the company announced a major new release of Ovation, the company's orchestration solution for live shows, now offering compatibility with Flux and Dolby as Renderer Partners.

As it was announced during Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference back in June 2020, among all the spectacular updates to all the company's operating systems (iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14), Apple discussed a new firmware update that would add spatial audio support for the company's AirPods Pro. Well, a few days ago, Apple did release the promised firmware update and suddenly, the spatial audio support in the AirPods Pro was a reality. And what an update! As everyone realized soon enough, the results are simply spectacular and very noticeable while watching movies with good soundtracks.

Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac announced that its latest spatial audio solution, which leverages the company's patented Dynamic HRTF technology, is now available for direct integration into the digital signal processors (DSP) of Bluetooth wireless headphones. The solution is now compatible with chipsets from Qualcomm, BES, and MediaTek and allows headphone manufacturers to deliver spatial audio to consumers, independent of playback devices or media players.

CEVA and VisiSonics, a developer of patented 3D spatial audio technologies, announced that the companies have collaborated closely together to develop a comprehensive 3D spatial audio solution for embedded devices, including true wireless audio (TWS) earbuds, headphones and other hearables. The collaboration combines VisiSonics' RealSpace 3D audio software optimized for CEVA’s low power audio and sensor hub DSPs together with CEVA’s MotionEngine head tracking algorithms running on its BNO080 9-axis System in Package (SiP).

In the wake of the acquisition of the Hillcrest Laboratories (Hillcrest Labs) business from InterDigital in mid-2019, CEVA now introduced the Hillcrest Labs MotionEngine Hear, a sensor and processor agnostic embedded software solution for hearable devices. The new solution allows SoC vendors, OEMs and ODMs to take advantage of a configurable sensor fusion platform to add intuitive user interface, gesture control, activity tracking and spatial audio capabilities to hearable devices.

French designer and manufacturer of high-end electroacoustic systems Amadeus and the Krug Champagne winery in France have set up a tasting room with an immersive audio system with highly customized speakers for specially composed music to accompany wine tasting. France's advanced acoustics and music technology research institute IRCAM was intimately involved with Amadeus to create an immersive 'Audio Tasting Space' at the House of Krug, Reims France.

Steinberg and Embody Introduce AI-Driven Personalized Spatial Audio Solution for Ambisonics Mixing

Steinberg has joined forces with Embody, a company working in personalized spatial audio, to develop Steinberg Immerse with VST AmbiDecoder, a new personalized spatial audio solution for Cubase and Nuendo. Immerse with VST AmbiDecoder uses HRTF profiles, allowing audio engineers to correctly monitor Ambisonics mixes using headphones. Embody creates the personal HRTF profiles using images of the user's ear, captured with a smartphone.
