xMEMS Unveils AI Glasses Prototypes Featuring Sycamore MEMS Speaker and µCooling Fan

Delivering on earlier announcements, xMEMS Labs will demonstrate new AI smart glasses prototypes at its upcoming xMEMS Live Asia seminar series on September 16 in Taipei, and September 18 in Shenzhen. The concept features Sycamore, a very thin and light “sound-from-ultrasound” MEMS transducer that is able to deliver superior beaming for the challenging conditions of glasses frames. The prototype also showcases how xMEMS µCooling technology will deliver the industry’s first in-frame active cooling solution.

Following the debut of the original Sycamore microspeaker in late 2024, xMEMS Labs is already working on expanding the technology to even thinner form factors with the Sycamore-W. This new full-range driver is an evolution of the company's Cypress "sound from ultrasound" MEMS platform introduced in 2023, and currently waiting for the results of safety reports on long-term ultrasound exposure for humans. xMEMS is confident in those reports and is doubling down with the even thinner, Sycamore-W.

To be unveiled at CES 2025 is a new example of a MEMS microspeaker company that now offers an integration with a MEMS microphone. SonicEdge, the startup that pioneered ultrasound MEMS drivers and has yet to enter the market, will present SonicTwin, an integrated speaker-microphone in a single package. Combining the company's patented modulated ultrasound technology that eliminates traditional mechanical vibrations, makes the integration with a microphone and sensors much easier with potential benefits also for ANC and lower-power in TWS earbuds and headphones.
