Expanding its line of premium and performance-based drivers, designed and manufactured under the Bold North Audio brand, MISCO announced the introduction of the BWX-6501 & BWX-6502, two high performance 6.5" high excursion woofers with an XBL2 motor design and 10 mm linear Xmax. These new models add to a growing line of premium and performance-based drivers, all designed and manufactured in MISCO’s own facility in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Scan-Speak announced two new drivers, each one strategically filling a gap in one of the brand's driver families. On the higher frequency range, Scans-Speak launched the Revelator 19 mm Dome Tweeter, D2104/712000, featuring the company's patented Symmetrical Drive (SD-2) motor, with a neodymium ring magnet system with double vent and coated textile diaphragm. The other driver is a brand new 15 cm midwoofer, the 15W/8534T00, expanding the established Classic line.

This month’s driver on Test Bench, from high-end OEM manufacturer Wavecor is the WF152BD03/04 6″ midwoofer. This is another characterization from the Voice Coil archives. This 6″ paper cone midbass woofer, like the previously reviewed Wavecor WF120, highlights Wavecor Balanced Drive system design, a proprietary distortion reducing motor technology, which results in a more symmetrical Bl curve. The driver we tested is from Airborne, produced in China by long-time OEM manufacturer and high-end audio catalog retailer, Solen Electronique, Canada. The HR124B8-10L 4.5" midrange is intended for home hi-fi applications. This driver is built on a 6-spoke cast frame and the cone assembly consists of a curvilinear wood grain fiber cone and dust cap, suspended by an NBR rubber surround and a 2.75" diameter flat cloth spider. This Test Bench examines a new pro sound woofer from Faital Pro. The Faital Pro 6” 6RS140 pro sound woofer has a power handling rating of 200 W (AES) and targets applications as a midbass or midrange in three-way stage or studio monitors, as well as midrange arrays in large PA systems. The frame is a proprietary four-spoke cast-aluminum frame, and like many small diameter drivers, it does not have a venting below the spider mounting area. The 7” RS180P-8 Reference Series midwoofer from Dayton Audio uses a nice six-spoke cast-aluminum frame with narrow 10-mm wide spokes to minimize reflections back into the cone. The cone assembly is composed of a three-part lightweight paper cone that combines Kevlar and glass fiber with the paper slurry. Cosmetically speaking, this is very good looking driver. For this test bench article, I characterized the New Eminence Alpha-5-8 5” line array/column array midbass driver. This a new 5” midwoofer from the American Standard Series, a 24-model transducer line of epoxy-acrylic finished stamped frame woofers and midranges. Applications for the Alpha 5-8 include use as a midrange in a multi-way speaker, as multiples in a line array, or as a compact column PA speaker. PRV Audio Introduces new Mid Bass and Mid Range Drivers for 2018

PRV Audio announced two new mid frequency drivers optimized for very powerful pro audio applications. The 10MB800FT is a rugged 10" mid bass woofer that combines a remarkable SPL output with low distortion and extended bass response, optimized for compact enclosures and larger 2 or 3 way systems. The 8MR600X focuses on high output mid range performance, with a sensitivity of 98 dB, using a 2" voice coil to ensure high heat dissipation and the necessary motor strength to deliver high sensitivity even on high power with the minimum distortion.
