COMSOL announced the release of the latest version of its modeling and simulation software. COMSOL Multiphysics version 6.1 including expanded capabilities in Fluid and Mechanical Simulations. The Acoustics Module in version 6.1 includes several important new possibilities for electroacoustic simulations, including acoustic streaming, and lumped speaker boundary conditions for thermoviscous acoustics.

SonicEdge, an Israeli startup working in MEMS speakers has registered a Danish business unit at Sound Hub Denmark in Struer. SonicEdge has developed an ultra-compact MEMS speaker solution based on a patented design and modulated ultrasound technology that promises to be significantly smaller, more energy-efficient and more robust without compromising on sound quality. Having found investors and clients in Denmark, SonicEdge is now looking to develop its business further and hire for its Danish R&D department.

The Megaclite 4.0 UH-R2040 is a reference design based on USound's Achelous UT-P2018 MEMS drivers, comparable in length and width to smaller balanced armatures, but thinner. They’re SMT reflow-compatible, so easy to incorporate into automatic assembly processes. Brent Butterworth listened, measured, and compared the performance of this new design against conventional in-ear products using established driver technologies. Taiwan-based semiconductor design house Sounds Great is unveiling prototypes of its Motion Microchip and Semiconductor Dynamic Speaker (SDS) solutions at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. The company's technology is the smallest speaker solution of its type, and will be presented as a 1.5x1.5mm single driver or an SDS array, enabling applications from earphones to stereo reproduction in consumer devices. In its second year at CES, the company shows a promising speaker concept with large potential for ultra low-power designs.

xMEMS Labs introduced Tomales, a new monolithic, 1mm-thin profile MEMS tweeter µspeaker, available with top and side-firing package options that simplify speaker placement and positioning to direct audio toward the ear in smart glasses and augmented/extended reality headset applications.
