Test Bench: The SB Acoustics Satori TW29DN-B-8 Tweeter

In this Test Bench we will be looking at the 29 mm TW29DN-B cloth dome tweeter from the SB Acoustics Satori line of high-end devices. This new TW29DN-B-8 SB Satori tweeter is a wide surround format-type similar to the original Vifa DX tweeter, or the current Scan-Speak D2604 or D2607. However, all of these are 26 mm diaphragm tweeters, and the new Satori ST29DN-B-8 is a 29 mm diaphragm type. This article was published in Voice Coil, March 2019.

This month I am characterizing the SB29BNC beryllium 29 mm dome tweeter from SB Acoustics. This is the second high-end 29 mm beryllium diaphragm neodymium dome sent by SB Acoustics for Test Bench. This Test Bench characterizes the T34B-4 34mm beryllium dome tweeter from BlieSMa, a German company founded in 2018 by Stas Malikov. BlieSMa’s first tweeter offering, the T34A-4 34 mm aluminum/magnesium alloy dome, appeared in Voice Coil’s June 2018 Test Bench. SEAS announced the launch of its new Titan product line in the Prestige Series, implementing FEA-optimized magnet systems with copper caps and rings, and titanium voice coil formers, in combination with matte black aluminum cones and domes, among many other improved features. SEAS' Prestige series offers a large array of sizes and diaphragm materials to perfectly fit the exacting requirements of both the OEM and distribution markets. The new Prestige Titan series is a long-awaited refreshment of this product line.

This month’s Test Bench driver is the T35C002 1.5” tweeter from Norwegian high-end home audio manufacturer SEAS’s home audio driver Excel line. The T35C002 is basically an Excel line version of the company’s Exotic line T35 Alnico V tweeter, but it uses a neodymium magnet, with a 1.5” coated cloth diaphragm sourced from German high-end diaphragm manufacturer Dr. Kurt Muller (DKM). In this Test Bench, I characterized two new 28 mm dome tweeters from Dayton Audio — the RST28A-4 and the RST28F-4 from the Dayton Reference Series. Both are similar tweeters that share pretty much the same platform with the primary difference being the RST28A-4 uses an 30 mm aluminum dome and the RST28F-4 has a 30 mm coated silk dome. Tang Band Speaker 25-2234SD High-Resolution 1-Inch Aluminum and Magnesium Dome Tweeter

In this edition of Test Bench I characterized a transducer from Tang Band (TB) Speaker, the 25-2234SD, a new 1” high-resolution dome tweeter with response to 40 kHz. The 25-2234SD is a compact tweeter that features a 1” aluminum/magnesium inverted dome, a neodymium motor structure, an injection-molded faceplate, a protective grill, and a rear cavity with magnetic fluid in the motor gap for cooling. Test Bench: The T34A-4 Tweeter from BlieSMA

BlieSMa was founded January 16, 2018, by Stas Malikov. The first product being released by BlieSMa is a 34 mm tweeter, the T34A-4. Available from May 2018, the T34A-4 is a 30 mm metal aluminum/magnesium alloy dome tweeter with a substantial feature set that includes extremely low moving mass, and a fully saturated neodymium motor with copper sleeve shorting ring.
