Test Bench: The D2908/716000 TPCD Metamodal 1” Dome Tweeter from Scan-Speak's Revelator Line

Scan-Speak has been working with Composite Sound to develop a generation of metamodal thin-ply carbon diaphragms (TPCDs), engineered to fully replace the almost impossible-to-source and extremely expensive beryllium domes. The Scan-Speak D2908/716000 1” Revelator TPCD tweeter, which replaced the Revelator D2908/714000, now includes a new 1" TPCD metamodal diaphragm, combined with the patented Scan-Speak Symmetrical Drive SD-2 neodymium motor structure.

Vance Dickason measures the Scan-Speak D2008/2010, the revised version of the classic dome tweeter from the Danish brand. The D2010 and the D2008 are two revised classic Scan-Speak 19mm soft dome tweeters, originally launched more than 35 years ago. Scan-Speak basically discontinued production of the original 19mm ferrite magnet soft dome models and replaced them with these new 19mm textile dome neodymium motor versions.

Test Bench: The Stereo Integrity M25 mkII Surface-Mountable Tweeter

Founded in 2001, Stereo Integrity is an OEM speaker driver manufacturer from North Carolina that also designs its own range of hi-fi amplifiers, sold directly to consumers online. The company sent its M25 mkII high-end tweeter, which features a 25mm silk dome diaphragm and surround, a dual-magnet neodymium motor, a black anodized aluminum motor housing with a tuned rear chamber, two-layer CCAW wound voice coil, and a compact 50mm diameter face plate with a steel anodized grill. This Test Bench characterizes the SB29SDNC-C000-4 29mm cloth dome tweeter from SB Acoustics, a shielded neodymium motor driver with a compact 72mm diameter injection-molded face plate and large surround, featuring a copper cap shorting ring on the pole piece, internal pressure equalization, and a flow resistor for non-resonance cavity coupling. Another characterization of the innovative tweeter designs launched by Sinar Baja, developed by Ulrik Schmidt and Frank Nielsen at Danesian Audio.
