Sonos Announces Play:5 Beastie Boys Limited Edition

In a somewhat unusual announcement, Sonos revealed an exclusive collaboration with the Beastie Boys: a strictly limited Beastie Boys Play:5 speaker, with all proceeds going to charity. This is the first brand collaboration in the Beastie Boys’ illustrious 39-year career and the first time the group has collaborated with artist and close friend, Barry McGee, who designed the graphic elements of the speaker. The Sonos Beastie Boys Limited Edition Play:5 will be available for purchase beginning December 2018 (USD $499) on sonos.com, at the Sonos flagship store in NYC and select retailers worldwide.

AirPlay 2 is now available on Sonos. This means the sounds from any app – music, podcasts, radio, video, audiobooks, and more – on any iOS devices can be streamed directly to Sonos with multiroom and Siri support. Following the earlier announcement that Sonos would be updating some of its most recent systems to support Apple's new AirPlay 2 technology, Sonos now confirmed that its users can start using AirPlay 2 with a free software update.

Sonos Announces Sonos Beam Smart Soundbar for TV and Music

During a special event in San Francisco Sonos unveiled Sonos Beam, a new compact smart soundbar with support for 80+ music services, as well as support for Amazon Alexa at launch (with multiple voice assistants to come over time). With Beam, Sonos combined three products into one – a smart speaker, a powerful soundbar, and a music and streaming center for the living room. Beam connects to the Sonos home sound system in multi-room set-ups. The Sonos Beam should be available from July 17 at $399 US, already supporting Apple AirPlay 2.

Pandora Expands Support for Pandora Premium and Alexa Voice Commands on Sonos

Pandora streaming music provider, and Sonos, launched new ways for listeners to control their music on Sonos within Pandora’s mobile app. Listeners in the U.S. can now control Sonos directly through the Pandora mobile app and command Pandora stations with voice commands via Alexa. The new experience also includes support for Premium, Pandora’s on-demand service launched earlier this year.
