Sonos Introduces New Features with AirPlay 2 Update

AirPlay 2 is now available on Sonos. This means the sounds from any app – music, podcasts, radio, video, audiobooks, and more – on any iOS devices can be streamed directly to Sonos with multiroom and Siri support. Following the earlier announcement that Sonos would be updating some of its most recent systems to support Apple's new AirPlay 2 technology, Sonos now confirmed that its users can start using AirPlay 2 with a free software update.
 
With AirPlay 2, users can play music and podcasts from iOS devices directly to Sonos speakers including Sonos Beam, Sonos One, Playbase, and the second generation Play:5. And, even with a single supported speaker, AirPlay content can be streamed to other Sonos speakers in the system. That means that even non-AirPlay compatible speakers like Playbar or Play:1 can reap the benefits of AirPlay 2 integration, provided they’re grouped with one of the newer devices in the Sonos app.

Also, with AirPlay 2 on Sonos, users will gain a new voice experience with the addition of Siri. Users can ask Siri to play any track, album, or playlist on Apple Music by using an iOS device to start playing on Sonos.
 
Using AirPlay 2, users can also instantly send sound from any AirPlay-compatible iOS app to Sonos to any or several speakers in the home. If the app has an AirPlay icon, users can stream it on Sonos. AirPlay also lets users watch videos on apps like YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, and many others and pipe the sound throughout the home on Sonos.
