Sennheiser Now Shipping First Spectera WMAS Solutions

Officially unveiled to the world in September 2025, Sennheiser has announced that it will commence shipments of its Spectera wideband wireless ecosystem from April 25, 2025. Spectera is based on Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems (WMAS) broad bandwidth technology, offering the ability to densely pack many audio channels within a six to ten megahertz (MHz) radio frequency band, and meeting the regulatory goals around the globe for the use of available spectrum.

Sennheiser has launched the new MKH 8018, a compact stereo shotgun microphone designed for broadcasting and filming applications. Climate-proof and rugged, the MKH 8018 is a high-class short microphone that completes the company’s MKH 8000 range of RF condenser microphones, all of which excel in the field due to their ability to capture natural sound with virtually no off-axis coloration. Providing further flexibility, the lightweight MKH 8018 features three switchable stereo modes: MS stereo, wide XY stereo, and narrow XY stereo.

Sennheiser launched new headphones that could easily be confused with other existing designs from the brand. After that, it showcased the solution at numerous international trade shows. Now, Sennheiser is taking the first step for market introduction with the Spectera Pioneer Program, which gives selected customers from live audio and broadcasting the opportunity to experience the new technology in their daily work.

The new Sennheiser Profile Wireless is a 2-channel, 2.4GHz all-in-one microphone system, designed for content creators and videographers as a versatile tool to effortlessly capture high-quality audio. It's also the first product from the brand to signal a new direction since the German company decided to sell its consumer business. Sennheiser Profile Wireless competes head-on with the mighty of Røde and all the emerging Chinese brands disputing this segment.

Merging Technologies announced that Pyramix 15 will be unveiled at the upcoming AES Show in New York (October 8-10, 2024). According to the Swiss company that is now part of Neumann/Sennheiser, this latest version of Pyramix comes with a modern redesign and an enhanced user experience, making it easier to use. Among the new features Pyramix 15 introduces a new fully customizable mixer, with upgraded channel strip and bus tools, seamless integration with ARA2 plugins and reengineered Merging VS3 plugins.

Sennheiser is looking to the future with advanced wireless microphone technologies. But the German microphone manufacturer is also looking to its past for inspiration and to maintain its products competitive in today's market. The new MD 421 Kompakt is an appropriately named, compact version of one of its most legendary microphones, the Sennheiser MD 421. This redesign doesn't compromise on the performance of its large-diaphragm capsule, making the MD 421 Kompakt an even more versatile dynamic microphone.

Following a few intense days in the extremely warm and dry environment in Berlin, attending IFA 2024 - the Big CE Supermarket as I called it in my 2015 report - it felt great to move on to Amsterdam and attend the vibrant International Broadcasting Convention (IBC). Great, if it wasn't for the sudden change in weather with unexpected rain and a sudden drastic drop in temperature. IBC 2024 was a vibrant show with historical announcements from Sennheiser and Genelec, but our report also highlights the impressive expansion of Dante audio networking in this important industry segment.
