Test Bench: B&C Speakers DCX464 High Power Coaxial Compression Driver and Horn

The driver to be characterized in this Test Bench is from B&C Speakers and is the DCX464, a pretty unusual ring radiator compression driver. First, because it’s a coaxial compression driver - a rare category of compression driver, and second because the DCX464 compression driver and the accompanying horn measure down to an honest 300 Hz, which is quite a low frequency considering only a few OEM horns on the market go even as low as 400 Hz. B&C Speakers Expands High Energy DS Subwoofer Family

B&C has expanded their DS Series of high motor strength subwoofers to include 4" coil motor options. The DS Series are the next evolution in professional subwoofers, using a new, longer, four layer aluminum voice coil. The result is more energy in the gap, higher sensitivity, lower distortion and better overall performance. The two new models, 15DS100 and 18DS100, are now available.

B&C Speakers Joins Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA)

A group of stakeholders from the Rare Earth supply chain met recently for The Global Rare Earth Industry Association Conference, June 25- 27 in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting was also the first General Assembly to establish a global association to develop an integrated, de-risked and sustainable value chain for rare earth materials. The Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) was founded by 12 organisations, including Italian loudspeaker manufacturer B&C Speakers, which was already part of a European-funded project committed to the reuse of rare-earth magnets.

Prolight+Sound 2019 was a reassuring show for all companies working with Eighteen Sound drivers. The company is now, together with Ciare, part of the B&C Speakers SpA Group of companies. At the Frankfurt show, Eighteen Sound and Ciare had their own separate booth (side by side with B&C), showing lots of new products in all areas of the portfolio. Of course, Eighteen Sound is renowned for its low frequency drivers, and during Prolight+Sound the company impressed with the new 18NTLW500 next generation high performance subwoofer using Tetracoil technology.

B&C Speakers' engineers have been working for the last five years on a family of next generation high frequency devices. The result is the DCX464, a new time coherent coaxial ring radiator design with a neodymium magnet assembly, which the company believes will open new horizons for the professional audio industry. In this Test Bench I characterized the 12BG76-8, a high power handling 12” NBR pro sound woofer from B&C Speakers. This month’s sample submission is in the upper range of power handling in this extensive group with a continuous power handling rating of 1000 W (500 W nominal). Applications range from two and three-way PA speakers and compact two-way designs for high SPL in limited spaces. Test Bench: B&C Speakers' 12FCX76 12” High-Performance Pro Sound Coaxial

This edition of Test Bench characterizes the 12FCX76, 12” high-performance pro sound coaxial from B&C Speakers. This coaxial driver is similar to the 12FHX76, where the “H” designates that it uses a horn-loaded compression driver, while the “C” in the 12FCX76 stands for conical-loaded compression driver (the “F” is for ferrite). The 12FCX76 uses ferrite motors for both the woofer and the compression driver. In terms of features, the 12FCX76 woofer is built on a 12-spoke (six twin-leg spokes) cast aluminum frame with eight mounting holes. This article was originally published in Voice Coil, July 2014.
