The second part examines how these technologies have evolved, how they work together, and the implications of USB Audio Device Class 3.0 specification, which standardized audio over USB Type-C. Predicting that over 50% of all wireless headphones will incorporate Hearable Voice assistants, touch sensors and other interface technologies, a new report by Juniper Research forecasts that hearables will become the new standard for personal audio in under 5 years. The new report from Juniper has found that there will be an estimated 417 million hearables in use by 2022. This includes fitness-focused devices, hearing augmentation and purely audio-focused devices.

When we look at Adobe's portfolio of solutions, in a family of 21 core software programs, there is one for audio: Adobe Audition. Audition, used for audio recording, mixing, and restoration software, was acquired from Syntrillium Software in 2003 and was previously known as Cool Edit Pro. Recently I did an interview with Adobe's Audio Product Manager, Durin Gleaves, to understand why and how exactly the company is evolving its software using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The Mu-so range by Naim Audio now supports AirPlay 2. Naim confirmed that the Mu-so Qb (compact all-in-one speaker) update is now available, followed by the Mu-so (full size all-in-one speaker) update. The Naim Uniti range (2018-19 EISA award winner) will update with AirPlay 2 at the end of November 2018. With the updates Naim also confirmed that the Mu-so and Mu-so Qb systems are now available in Magnolia stores across the United States, in addition to Apple Stores.

Smart speakers are the hottest segment in consumer electronics, and Strategy Analytics has completed a major new survey of the first wave of users, to understand purchase motivations, usage, satisfaction and ownership patterns. The company's research leaves us in little doubt: smart speakers are a hit with the vast majority of people who are now using them (17% of the US screener population sample). Satisfaction levels are typically in the 90% range, and nearly two-thirds of users expect to buy another one within the next two years.

The study is entitled “Smart Home as a Service – Awakened from Sleep by a Deep Voice - Forecast to 2023”. The analyst firm confirms Communications Services Providers (CSPs) will need to turn to consumer voice platforms to explore the full potential of the smart home market.

Apple Holds Pole Position in the 'True' Wireless Headphone Category

In its latest assessment of the headphones landscape, market research firm Futuresource points out that the true wireless segment has grown 178% year-on-year, with Apple achieving a whopping 80% market share. On a worldwide basis, the overall headphones market totaled 79.1 million units in Q1, with retail revenues topping $4 billion.
