Vesper introduced the VM1001, the latest piezoelectric MEMS microphone in its product line, designed to ensure accurate voice assistant performance with extreme environmental robustness. The VM1001 is the first microphone in Vesper's portfolio specifically built for array applications and is ideal for voice user interface, beamforming arrays, outdoor devices, industrial sensors, smart home devices and other applications where low noise, high stability and durability are desired.
The VM1001 boasts a tight sensitivity tolerance of +/-1dB and guaranteed phase matching which allows high performance arrays to be built. It also has an acoustic overload point of 127dB SPL with instantaneous recovery for audio capture in loud environments.
"Vesper's best-selling family of microphones can now be used in large beamforming arrays for voice interfaces and acoustic event detection. This is an absolute game changer for the next generation of ultra-reliable smart home devices and IoT," says Matt Crowley, CEO of Vesper. "The widespread use cases are what make the VM1001 unique – it's designed for all things voice, especially systems that are installed outdoors, in harsh environments or that require a usable life of more than five years."
As with all Vesper microphones, the VM1001 solves a critical need for stable, reliable and accurate microphone arrays that operate in environmentally harsh surroundings. All Vesper microphones are natively immune to environmental contaminants such as dust, water, moisture, oil, particulate matter and shock. Vesper microphones are also immune to stiction, which can cause catastrophic system failure.
The VM1001 has a small 3.76mm x 2.95mm x 1.3mm package. It is reflow solder-compatible with no sensitivity degradation. The VM1001 is currently sampling and will be in volume production in Q1 2019. Email for more information on the VM1001.
Vesper is a privately held advanced sensor company based in Boston, Mass. With origins at the University of Michigan, Vesper's piezoelectric MEMS microphones are driving a new era of pervasive voice interfaces and acoustic event-detection products.
