New Range of Studio Float IsoRafts Vibration Isolation Products Debuts at Summer NAMM 2021

Studio Float, a new brand from acoustic and studio equipment specialist Pro Audio Design, has announced a range of entirely new vibration isolation products called IsoRafts. Designed as an inexpensive but effective sound-absorbing solution, IsoRafts are simple, innovative ‘blocks’ constructed from wood and silicone that provide accurate predictive acoustic performance and are geared towards studio designers and builders for private or commercial production/performance venue projects.

Pro Audio Design, the company headed by Dave Malekpour (of Augspurger Monitors fame), will be showing the new Studio Float IsoRafts range at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville, July 15–16, 2021. "Studio Float IsoRafts are the most efficient way to create sound isolation construction, down to very low frequencies, in any sound production or performance venue. When correctly placed under the floor deck, on wall studs and ceiling joists, IsoRafts are high performance decoupling devices," the company states.

IsoRafts blocks are made of wood with a silicone separating layer, and are quickly installed, moving the project along faster than other typical solutions. IsoRafts simply attach to the side of studs and joists, followed by wood furring (or metal hat channel) and then drywall. Noise trying to get through the wall or floor is directed into the silicone core where the vibration friction converts the sound energy into a small measure of heat, killing the noise. The special black silicone layer has been tested to be effective to the lowest frequencies. When sound energy travels through the top part of the IsoRaft, that energy is dissipated as heat.

The new IsoRafts blocks can also be used in a retrofit situation, adding a layer (or more) to an existing shell with a minimum of lost space in the room. Using IsoRafts during construction of a facility ensures the space is more acoustically efficient, preventing sound from leaking into performance areas. Floors, walls and ceilings are effectively “floating” and decoupled from the main structure, preventing sound transfer between spaces.

There are several IsoRaft models available, including Deck IsoRafts (for floors) available in three sizes and different height options for handling underfloor cabling; Wall IsoRafts with a 1/4" offset to provide an air gap to further improve performance; and Ceiling IsoRafts available for use with hanging acoustical panels or with a threaded rod insert for even more precise adjustability of acoustical treatments. All IsoRaft products are designed and built in Hanover, MA, and tested at industry leading Riverlab Acoustical Laboratories in IL.
