Registration Opens for AES Europe 2024, June 15-17, in Madrid, Spain

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has announced the opening of registration for the 2024 AES European Convention – Madrid, to be held June 15-17 in Madrid, Spain. The next in-person gathering of audio professionals, researchers and academics will be hosted by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, located in the southeast area of the city. 
 

The Audio Engineering Society confirmed Jose Luis Crespo and Antonio Pedrero as featured keynote speakers at AES Europe 2024, with Xavier Serra as the Convention’s Richard C. Heyser Memorial Lecturer. The Convention program is under final development by a team of member experts representing the expanse of audio specialties. The Convention’s technical program will feature leading audio practitioners, researchers, and technology specialists who will cover foundational and cutting-edge audio topics ranging from production to reproduction and technology to techniques. Jose Luis Crespo is one of the most prominent sound engineers in Spain, specializing in music recording and mixing, including film soundtracks in Dolby Atmos. He is highly sought after by leading composers and film directors in Spain.

Antonio Pedrero is a multidisciplinary researcher with a background in engineering and musicology. He specializes in environmental acoustics, acoustic metrology, building acoustics, and virtual acoustic reality technologies. Since 1997, he has served as the technical director of the Acoustic and Vibration Laboratory at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. He also works as an auditor for acoustic testing laboratories with the National Accreditation Entity. Dr. Pedrero is actively involved in the Spanish Society of Acoustics, where he has been the chair since 2020, and the Spanish Society of Musicology. He is a member of the board of the International Commission for Acoustics.
 
Xavier Serra, the Convention’s Heyser Memorial Lecturer, is a professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, leading the Music Technology Group. Currently, he directs the UPF-BMAT Chair on AI and Music, focusing on ethical AI initiatives for the industry. His research covers computational analysis, description, and synthesis of sound and music signals, blending science and art. Dr. Serra is a leading expert in audio signal processing, sound and music computing, music information retrieval, and computational musicology. He received an advanced grant from the European Research Council for the CompMusic project, promoting multicultural approaches in music information research.
