In its core function as a listening device, Opn overcomes a challenge the most advanced hearing solutions can’t solve: the ability to handle noisy environments with multiple speakers. But Oticon Opn also champions an “Internet of Things that matter”, where devices and services people that depend on for their health and safety join today’s more entertainment and convenience-oriented offerings. That’s why the company is launching project ON, a new technology that makes its latest-generation hearing aids Oticon Opn part of the Internet of Things through the online service If This Then That (ifttt.com). The company believes that unique recipes created with IFTTT from real users will help to demonstrate the versatile and life-changing benefits of Opn for those with hearing loss. The IFTTT implementation allows users to interact with home automation systems or any Internet-connected device, such as door bells, smoke detectors and baby alarms.

The Opn platform also benefits from its advanced sound processing system, Velox, which allows users to more naturally follow multiple conversations in noisy environments, such as dinner conversations, without using traditional directionality. Oticon’s Velox platform allows much faster data processing, supports 64 frequency channels for higher signal and frequency resolution, allows full environmental analysis 100+ times per second and has the processing capacity to handle 1,200 million operations per second. Through the use of precise sound analysis performed over 100 times a second, important sound such as speech can be located from any direction, with background noise deemphasized for optimum clarity.
