IK Multimedia Launches Improved iLoud MTM MKII Ultra-Nearfield Monitors

May 31 2024, 01:10
Adding a host of improvements while maintaining its compact size and price, IK Multimedia unveiled the iLoud MTM MKII active studio monitors. While maintaining the original's iconic MTM design, the MKII models further surpass the limits of its compact size to offer features that dramatically elevate performance. More efficient drivers, twice the processing power, and now with advanced ARC auto-calibration already built-in.

Available as a pair, 11-speaker immersive bundle or individually, the iLoud MTM MKII monitors represent a significant step forward in output and flexibility, by delivering the most affordable studio reference solution available for close monitoring. IK Multimedia understands who are its customers and knows how they appreciate the best performance value, particularly at a time when even home and project studios are considering installing an immersive monitoring environment.

The iLoud MTM MKII monitors offer improved speaker drivers, which results in improved off-axis response, power efficiency and SPL. Inside the monitors there's onboard processing power at 96kHz (up from 48kHz), double the DSP and the latest ARC room correction technology built-in. Connected to a computer, X-MONITOR software is now integrated into the workflow, giving MTM MKII users expanded options to monitor and mix confidently, as well as adding customization and emulations of 20+ top studio monitors and other playback systems to A/B mixes.

The updated IK monitors combine a pair of 3.5″ high-performance woofers with a custom composite cone, and one 1″ high-definition, back-chamber loaded tweeter. These deliver superior volume and low end while providing increased clarity and mid-range articulation. The Midrange-Tweeter-Midrange design (D’Appolito configuration) gives ultra-precise, defined, point-source sound that traditional 2-way systems can’t achieve at close distances. This translates in an improved 36Hz bass extension (-10 dB) and higher SPL levels, potentially resulting in more balanced mixes with less ear fatigue at ultra-nearfield positions.

Thanks to the MTM MKII's tight vertical dispersion, the acoustic impacts of desktop placement and room reflections are minimized to ensure accuracy on every project. The wide horizontal dispersion provides a broader sweet spot than the previous generation and a smoother in-room response. Improved power efficiency and an extended max SPL also offer flexibility for FOH, immersive speaker setups or other volume-dependent tasks.

Short after the launch of the ARC Studio system and ARC 4 software update, IK Multimedia made the use of room correction and calibration even more convenient for users of the MTM MKII monitors. Using technology from its flagship iLoud Precision monitor series, expands on its ARC auto-calibration system for reliable translation in virtually any environment. Connecting the provided ARC MEMS microphone (included free with any iLoud MTM MKII pair or immersive bundle) to each speaker's mic input, users will be ready to obtain the best possible results for the room in minutes.

Featuring IK's X-MONITOR software integration, the iLoud MTM MKII monitors now offer complete control over every speaker element beyond its rear panel controls. For example, X-MONITOR gives the MTM MKII precise delay compensation between units for superior stereo imaging. Users can also A/B mixes by switching virtual monitoring voices, which emulate the frequency and phase response of over 20 top studio monitors and reference systems.

The IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII monitors can be ordered online from the brand or IK authorized dealers worldwide at the following prices (excluding taxes):
iLoud MTM MKII (Single) – $/€399.99* - ARC MEMS microphone not included.
iLoud MTM MKII (Pair) – $/€799.99 – Includes ARC MEMS microphone.
