Goldring GR3 Turntable With Built-In Preamp Targeted at New Generation of Vinyl Enthusiasts

October 3 2024, 00:35
Founded in 1906, Goldring remains a globally recognized name as a designer and manufacturer of phono cartridges. With more than 100 years of rich heritage, Goldring now announced the GR3, its first turntable in more than 20 years. Developed in collaboration with other renowned British hi-fi manufacturers from Armour Home, the new GR3 turntable is equipped with the popular Goldring E3 moving magnet cartridge and already features a built-in phono pre-amplifier.
This new affordable turntable marks a significant return for Goldring, bringing together the company's legacy with modern-day convenience. This is also part of the vision from Armour Home, the specialist manufacturer and distributor that since 2015 designs, develops and manufactures products under six owned brands – Q Acoustics, QED, Goldring, Audica, Systemline and Q Acoustics Install.

The Goldring story began in 1906 with the supply of steel needles, springs and clockwork motors to the gramophone industry. Products were marked with a golden ring to indicate high quality of design and manufacture. In 1926 Goldring introduced the Jewel Electro, arguably the most advanced gramophone soundbox of its day. During the decades following the war, as home hi-fi became a reality, Goldring was always at the forefront of innovation. The brand quickly became the industry standard for electro-magnetic pickups, with its 500 series cartridge becoming widely used throughout the broadcasting industry.

Now, the GR3 represents Goldring's stylish re-entry into the turntable arena, in an elegant design that pairs premium performance with a high-gloss black plinth and perspex dust cover. The pre-installed Goldring E3 moving magnet cartridge is perfectly aligned on the GR3 tonearm, while the phenolic resin platter was designed to maximize the flywheel effect, ensuring consistent rotational speed for enhanced audio fidelity. By distributing the majority of its considerable mass at the outside of rotation, inertia is increased and therefore speed variations are suppressed. This gives the GR3 a very good wow and flutter performance which in turn ensures that the fidelity of its musical reproduction remains high.

The Goldring GR3 also features a stiff and lightweight aluminum cantilever, while a ‘dual magnet’ generator ensures improved reproduction, better channel separation and a more musical soundstage. To add the convenience to today's homes where the GR3 is targeted at, the turntable features an integrated RIAA phono pre-amplifier that can be easily combined with Q Acoustics M20 or M40 powered speakers for a user-friendly vinyl system.

The GR3 also comes with a choice of high-quality interconnects - a 1.5m phono-to-phono and a 3m phono-to-3.5mm cable - from Goldring’s other world-renowned sister brand QED, ensuring a vigorous connection and sound quality.

The Goldring GR3 turntable is available now in the UK and Europe, priced at EUR €899 and in the US from December 2024, priced USD $999.
