Denon Earbuds to Deliver Personalized Listening Featuring Nura’s Self-Learning Technology

Denon has announced that it is bringing the hearing profile technology from Australian headphone company Nura, into the brand’s product pipeline. In adding Nura’s otoacoustic emission measuring technology to Denon products, the Sound United brand, now owned by Masimo, will be able to add personalized sound, based on hearing measurements of each ear, processed on the device to create a unique user listening profile. 
 

According to the Japanese company, the combination of Denon’s sound engineering expertise with Nura's pioneering personalized listening technology will enhance audio detail and "set a new standard in personal listening to enjoy audio at unprecedented levels."

Originally a Japanese electronics company founded in 1910, always at the forefront of technological advancements in audio engineering, decades later the company was involved in the early stages of development of digital audio technology, while specializing in the manufacture of high-fidelity professional and consumer audio equipment. In 2001, Denon was an independent company, 98% held by Ripplewood Holdings and 2% by Hitachi. In 2002, Denon merged with Marantz to form D&M Holdings. In 2017, Sound United completed the acquisition of D+M Holdings. In 2022, Sound United was in turn acquired by Masimo Corporation, a medical technology company with the ambition to enter the consumer wearables space.
 

The licensing of Nura's technology to expand the Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT) platform, combines Masimo's 30-year expertise in signal processing with the acoustic engineering from Masimo's Sound United consumer audio businesses, and is intended to address unique hearing complexities that vary from person to person.
 
Masimo AAT works by creating personalized listening profiles for each user based on the individual's unique hearing. By measuring the user's hearing sensitivity and tailoring sound accordingly, Masimo intends to ensure that no instrumental detail or sound subtlety is left unheard. This technology combined with Denon's audio engineering prowess will enable a more accurate and precise delivery of sound.

As the companies join forces, Masimo states that this moment "promises to be a game-changer for personalized audio with users being able to experience the pinnacle of personalized listening." The first Denon product featuring Masimo AAT is expected to be introduced in mid-2023.
