When Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries (DALI) announced the KORE speaker in 2022, the company made a clear statement to the industry about its abilities and ambitions as a leading speaker designer and manufacturer. The new flagship loudspeaker was designed, crafted, and built by DALI at the company's facilities in Denmark, where every aspect of the design was carefully considered. Nothing is standard in the DALI KORE, including in the speaker drivers designed specifically for this project, creating a foundation for things to come, and establishing a new statement of the company's artistry.
Of course the DALI KORE is not for everyone, and the strategy was better revealed the year after, when DALI celebrated its 40-year in business, and the company launched the EPIKORE 11 speaker, a 4.5-way tower of sound that trickled-down from the flagship KORE product and technologies. Obviously, DALI was not going to stop there, and already in 2024, it announced the RUBIKORE Series.
With this much more "mainstream" loudspeaker series, DALI is also expanding its presence globally outside of the high end circles. In North America the brand is distributed by the Lenbrook Group of Companies, the privately held Canadian corporation who are also the owners of NAD Electronics, PSB Speakers, Bluesound and Bluesound Professional. Formed in 1978, Lenbrook initially was a national distributor of electronics and communications products in Canada and has grown to become a leading global supplier to over 80 countries around the world - more countries than those where DALI is present.
And it's thanks to Lenbrook and its availability in North America that we finally get all the details about the new RUBIKORE Series, which was introduced at the High End Munich show in May 2024. The new series consists of five models: two floor standing speakers including the RUBIKORE 8 and RUBIKORE 6, one bookshelf the RUBIKORE 2, an on-wall model the RUBIKORE ON-WALL, and the RUBIKORE CINEMA, an LCR home cinema speaker.
What is really interesting in this new RUBIKORE Series are the technologies involved. Of course, the RUBIKORE Series incorporates numerous innovations and lessons learned from the DALI KORE. At the heart of these advancements is the Clarity Cone Technology bass/midrange driver diaphragms, ensuring a natural midrange clarity devoid of any artificial coloration. Complemented by the DALI SMC motor systems, these drivers achieve minimal distortion and optimal performance efficiency. The RUBIKORE 8 and 6 loudspeakers further enhance audio purity thanks to SMC KORE inductors within their crossover circuits to significantly reduce signal loss. In addition, the entire range also features high-performance Mundorf capacitors.
The RUBIKORE 2, 6, and 8 loudspeaker enclosures are further equipped with Continuous Flare Reflex Ports to maximize efficiency while reducing turbulence and noise. Drawing inspiration from the EVO-K Hybrid Tweeter of the DALI KORE, the entire RUBIKORE Series also introduces a new Low-Loss Dome Tweeter that achieves the highest resolution in the high-frequencies.
With the paper and wood fiber Clarity Cone Technology SMC bass/midrange drivers these speakers deliver a truly accomplished musical performance, where the synergy with the DALI Hybrid Tweeter brings extraordinary detail and clarity to high frequencies. Overall, the RUBIKORE Series excels at relaxed, large scale, wide dispersion, low loss, and amplifier optimized sound quality, whether integrated into high-end stereo music systems or multichannel and immersive home theater setups.
The cabinets are also a testament to the storied Danish tradition of craftsmanship. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the expertly crafted and extensively braced cabinets offer a supremely rigid and inert foundation for the drivers, encapsulating elegance and functionality in one. Each RUBIKORE Series loudspeaker is meticulously hand-crafted and assembled by DALI in Denmark, benefiting from the rich pool of local component suppliers. Available finishes for each product include High Gloss Black, Natural Walnut, and High Gloss White. High Gloss Maroon is also available on select models.
As is to be expected from DALI, these are serious loudspeakers, where everything is there for a reason, sound outstanding, and nothing is average. Of course, the retail prices for each model reflect a product made in Denmark - one of the most expensive countries in the world - and start at $2,500 for each RUBIKORE ON-WALL and go up to $12,000 USD (pair) for the RUBIKORE 8. Anyway, much more affordable than the original and extremely heavy KORE, which costs more to just move than to make.
