d&b audiotechnik today announced the introduction of its new D40 mobile amplifier, an optimized version of the original 40D installation amplifier. According to the German audio technology and solutions company, this is a four-channel Class D amplifier with reduced size and weight, featuring advanced voltage management, and increased system performance, significantly reducing power consumption for improved environmental friendliness. This makes the D40 more economical for touring, rental and portable applications.
"This newest addition to the d&b family represents a significant progression in amplification and comes as a result of research and innovation in the entire d&b ecosystem of technology. The D40 is a great example of d&b’s drive to produce innovative, high-performing audio solutions,” comments d&b Product Manager, Wolfgang Schulz. “Enhanced feature benefits and power efficiency combined with energy savings features increases system efficiency.”
The D40 incorporates up to eight input channels with four analog inputs and four AES3 channels with corresponding link outputs. Each input channel can be routed to any of the output channels. The amplifier design features a switch mode power supply with automatic mains range selection and active Power Factor Correction (PFC) to produce a clean current draw and ensure stable and efficient performance under adverse mains conditions. The D40 offers a dynamic range of 116dB (unweighted) and is designed to drive high-voltage d&b loudspeakers while providing comprehensive management and protection capabilities.
When connected to d&b's KSL System loudspeakers and V-Series or Y-Series systems, the amplifier delivers full performance and reaches 180V peak. At the same time, the D40 combines advanced voltage management to drive systems that demand less input power as a whole, and includes enhanced energy saving features, power efficiency and Automatic Wake up for environmentally responsible and sustainable Green Building requirements.
The new model follows similar design guidelines from the existing d&b D20 and D80 amplifiers, sitting in between those models in output power but with added flexibility and efficiency. The amplifier’s user interface consists of a 4.3-inch (480 x 272 pixels) color touchscreen and a digital rotary encoder, providing comprehensive information of the device configuration and enhanced status monitoring. This allows users to explore its embedded flexible processing power, which was designed to accommodate future system architecture. The D40 uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to incorporate loudspeaker configurations and user-definable setups, equalization and delay functions.
Of course, all features and monitoring can be fully accessed remotely. Access to the d&b Remote network is via Ethernet using the Open Control Architecture protocol (AES70 / OCA). The D40 is controlled using the integrated web interface, which enables access via a browser, or using the d&b R1 Remote control software.
As part of the d&b family of networkable products, the D40 benefits from the full range of d&b technology software solutions including ArrayCalc, ArrayProcessing, NoizCalc and the R1 Remote control software. These elements all come together in the highly efficient d&b Workflow, maximizing the performance, usability, and value of d&b systems from planning and simulation all the way to performance.
d&b audiotechnik was established in 1981 and is internationally regarded as a leading company for sound reinforcement systems in installed and mobile applications, with a reputation for quality of construction, standard of service, system integration principles, and pioneering technological development. Following a strong expansion period under the current management, in 2021 the company established d&b solutions, a service-focused business entity, offering end-to-end expertise in the areas of project development, manufacturing, system planning, installation and maintenance. d&b headquarters are located in Backnang, near Stuttgart, where research, development and production take place.
