ISE 2022 attendees were able to experience first-hand d&b’s newest and smallest sibling of the SL-Series, the XSL system, announced already in 2021 but seen here in public for the first time. For those not familiar, EN 54 is a series of European standards for fire detection and fire alarm systems as well as voice alarm systems.
Additionally, the company showcased its own immersive audio technology, d&b Soundscape. Away from the hustle and bustle of the trade show floor, at the renowned live music venue and concert hall L'Auditori de Cornellà, d&b audiotechnik showcased Soundscape together with the new XSL System, and the first opportunity to experience the application of a d&b Acoustic Shell with a live demonstration from a string quartet. d&b's Soundscape immersive audio platform continues to expand thanks to updates to its En-Scene object based mixing software, and En-Space acoustic emulation system based on the sophisticated acoustic signatures of some of the world's leading performance venues.
Soundscape is powered by the DS100 signal engine, capable of 64x64 signal matrix processing and with integrated system configuration capabilities. Since its launch, d&b have set about to continuously develop Soundscape with new features including the En-Snap cue automation software, and most recently En-Scene simulation tool, which marked a radical development in the way spatialized sound is modeled.
5D Amplifier
The 5D is the newest addition to the d&b installation portfolio and addresses a broad range of small to mid-scale installation projects. The 5D is a four channel DSP amplifier featuring integrated audio networking and flexible output power sharing — all within an ultra compact design.

The 5D features a high-density form factor, with a 1 RU 9.5 inch footprint. The amplifier is the perfect size to drive smaller loudspeakers and can be mounted under tables or ceilings as well as in a rack, allowing d&b to serve a greater number of installations — no matter the size or needs of the venue. Its compact 4-channel design means the 5D is particularly convenient for the set-up and deployment of small Soundscape systems.
The 5D is also the first d&b amplifier with integrated Dante networking. This allows for flexible system configuration changes and convenient deployment of decentralized system designs — once again ensuring that a d&b system will provide the scalability, flexibility and reliability needed for today’s installations.
