Celestion introduced a number of new products at their virtual booth during this year’s winter NAMM show, Believe in Music 2021. As it would do at the Anaheim Convention Center, Celestion used the online event to show a number of new products and holding sessions of interest to everyone from guitar and bass players, to recording and mixing engineers, to live sound professionals and loudspeaker engineering teams. Highlights include the two new G12M-50 Hempback and Neo V Type guitar speakers.
During the NAMM virtual show (January 18-22, 2021) Celestion introduced a range of new products, including their SpeakerMix Pro Plug-In, the company’s next-generation professional, studio-grade digital speaker solution which enables users to capture and mix Impulse Responses as well as the new Dynamic Speaker Responses for ultra-realistic guitar speaker tones in a DAW.
Of interest to live sound professionals and loudspeaker engineers, Celestion unveiled the TFX0515 small-format coaxial driver, a new cost-effective and highly versatile TFX driver which joins the company’s comprehensive coaxial series of loudspeakers. Also new is the Celestion CN1845MD, an 18-inch woofer, with cast aluminum chassis and neo magnet with interesting specifications in excursion ability, using enhanced cooling technology and a dual suspension for increased stability.
Of course, the company also used the opportunity to demonstrate their HornWizard App, a new desktop and mobile application which is a portal to the company’s powerful horn design software.
As one should expect at a NAMM show, Celestion introduced several new products of interest to guitar players, including the F12M-150 Triple Cone, a new compact and highly cost-effective loudspeaker designed for use with amp modelers and Impulse Responses.
But the main highlights for the show, where two new guitar loudspeakers: the G12M Hempback guitar speaker and the Neo V-Type.
The Celestion G12M-50 Hempback takes Celestion tone in an exciting new direction. It is the first ever hemp cone guitar speaker built by Celestion and it features a cone specifically chosen for its tonal character - musical and responsive - combined with a medium-weight (35oz) ceramic magnet. Celestion characterizes it as "well defined and powerful the speaker delivers a thump in the low end, a finely balanced midrange (with just a little Celestion crunch thrown in) and smooth, singing highs."
In summary, a 12", 50 watts speaker that’s perfect for deploying with brighter sounding amps, where a more laid-back feel is required. Load up a Hempback for a smooth and “smoky” sound that’s musical and responsive, and let the hemp tone shine through.
The also new Celestion Neo V Type guitar speaker features a unique neodymium magnet assembly that delivers a weight reduction of almost 50% when compared with the company's well-established V-Type speaker. The sound is described by Celestion as a familiar and addictive modern take on the vintage sound of the original. "The Neo V-Type has been designed to be a cost-effective, lightweight neodymium magnet guitar speaker option both for manufacturers and for after-market upgrades, with no compromise on tone," Celestion adds.
