American audio solutions manufacturer, MISCO, announced the introduction of the BDT-2901, a high performance 29mm soft dome tweeter to add to its growing line of premium and high-performance drivers, all designed and manufactured under the Bold North Audio brand in its St. Paul, Minnesota facility. Expanding the brand's catalog, this new driver was designed to meet requests for a precision 29mm dome tweeter with a low crossover point, ideal for use in a two-way system paired with a 6.5” or 8” woofer.
Designed by transducer engineers with decades of experience and built by highly skilled manufacturing personnel, the BDT-2901 (P/N 78036) is the only soft dome tweeter currently produced in the US, and is fully Klippel verified using state of the art Klippel Laser Scanning Vibrometry and QC testing equipment, and a Near Field Scanner to optimize the design. This ultra-low distortion tweeter combines a unique inductance modulated neodymium magnetic circuit with a high-quality silk dome manufactured by Dr. Kurt Müller GmbH & Co., in Germany along with a large back-chamber to allow for a crossover below 1kHz.
The BDT-2901 dome tweeter combines a large rear chamber and damped center core with inductance reducing copper caps to provide one of the broadest frequency ranges available in a soft dome design: 1000 – 25,000 Hz. The unique T-Pole design is coupled with a tapered front plate to concentrate gap flux and increase BL.
Easily applied in products targeting high-end audio, home theater and monitor applications, the new soft dome tweeter was designed in response to customer requests for a high performance 29mm dome tweeter with both excellent performance and repeatable quality, one that would be produced in the USA to avoid issues with tariffs and ongoing trade disputes.
"The marketplace is accustomed to high-end tweeters being only produced by the Scandinavian suppliers”, says MISCO CEO Dan Digre. "With most global tweeter production today being done in Asia, more customers have asked us to design and manufacture a high-end home audio and studio monitor here in the US. Globally, US driver manufacturing is held in high regard, so we expect this tweeter and all of the Bold North Audio speakers to do well internationally. It’s time for some fresh air in the high-end tweeter marketplace."
All Bold North Audio designs are rooted in fundamental scientific research, careful materials selection, precision manufacturing and most of all, love of music. The BDT-2901, part of the expanding new Bold North Audio brand of ultra-premium component loudspeakers, is offered on MISCO’s website, and international distribution is available for markets outside the USA. Other products under development include ultra-premium quality woofers, midrange, and tweeters. Available to meet both the needs of manufacturers and DIY speaker builders, Bold North Audio products meet the needs of recording studios, high-end HiFi, and home audio market segments.
Seventy-one years ago (1949) Cliff Digre started the Minneapolis Speaker Company – now MISCO. A son of Norwegian immigrants who settled in Minnesota, his vision for the little company was bold: to challenge the traditional loudspeaker industry with more creative solutions and superior client service. Today MISCO is recognized as a global OEM loudspeaker manufacturer, and well established as a supplier to manufacturers in varied markets such as Military, Medical, Aerospace, Mass Transit, Pro Audio, and others. MISCO is one of the few remaining US speaker companies to have resisted off-shore migration of electronics companies.
