Smart Speakers, Smart Home and Whole Home Wi-Fi Solutions to Reach Revenue Milestones Says Consumer Technology Association

Artificial intelligence (AI), voice-recognition technology and fast connectivity – critical ingredients for smart speakers, smart home technologies and smartphones – will help spur overall U.S. consumer technology industry revenue to $377 billion in retail revenues in 2018, a six percent increase, according to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The mid-year update of CTA’s flagship report, U.S. Consumer Technology Sales and Forecasts, also shows whole home Wi-Fi solutions and wireless earbuds will each cross the $1 billion wholesale revenue milestone for the first time this year.

OPPO Introduces VOOC Fast Charging Technology

Chinese smartphone maker OPPO announced a new critical fast-charging technology for mobile devices, allowing 4x faster charging speed than conventional chargers. OPPO's VOOC technology features a flash charging system that will make a smartphone ready to be used for the working hours of the day after just 30 minutes of charging. Even though OPPO doesn't explain how its VOOC technology relates to the latest USB Power Delivery specifications, the brand's latest smartphones do use a USB-C connector.

According to an announcement in Blue's blog page Logitech has agreed to acquire Blue Microphones, the company which evolved from its roots in professional studio microphones to make the popular Snowball USB podcast microphone - sold worldwide on Apple stores - and all sorts of microphones for home studio, web calls, and musician's use. But apart from microphones, Blue is also currently a contender in the headphone space, since it introduced its ambitious active Mo-Fi headphones using custom 50mm drivers, later also evolved into wireless models, addressing the lifestyle segment.

RAVENNA Improves Session Description Protocol Features with Release of Latest RAV-2-SAP Converter

A new version of the RAVENNA-to-SAP (RAV-2-SAP) conversion tool has just been released and is available for download from the RAVENNA website. First launched in late 2016, the RAV-2-SAP freeware conversion tool was designed to help connect RAVENNA-networked devices to other AES67 devices by providing a translation service between RAVENNA and SAP announcements to enable the exchange of Session Description Protocol (SDP) data between otherwise incompatible devices. The new release delivers some important new features in addition to some minor bug fixes.
