Tribute to An Industry Pioneer: Gunnar Rasmussen (1925-2024)

The founder of GRAS Sound & Vibration, the renowned acoustical engineer Gunnar Rasmussen, passed away on April 17, 2024. Gunnar Rasmussen founded GRAS in 1994, at the age of 67, after leaving Brüel & Kjær, where he worked since his graduation. Starting out as a small family business, run by Gunnar Rasmussen and his wife Hanna Hertz, the Danish measurement microphones specialist quickly grew into a respected manufacturer, lead by his extraordinary vision and guiding principles. His lifework improved our understanding of sound, acoustics and the human hearing.

AXPONA 2024 Reports Record Attendance And Exhibitors

AXPONA (Audio Expo North America) welcomed 10,391 attendees, coming from 42 states and 31 countries, to the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center, April 12-14, 2024. This was a 14% increase over 2023 and marked its biggest show yet. Over 600 audio brands from 50+ countries offered a vibrant showcase filling the largest number of rooms. AXPONA offered music lovers three jam-packed days of spectacular sound, technology, seminars, live music, and the very latest products in the industry.

Solid State Logic launched the latest System T S400 console at the 2024 NAB Show. Following the recent launch of the Tempest Control App, the new S400 console is the latest control solution for SSL's System T production platform, able to deliver flagship control for live-to-air broadcast applications in a compact and cost-effective format. The S400 joins the other models in the SSL System T console lineup: the S300, S500 and S500m control surfaces. At NAB 2024, SSL also launched its virtualized System T Cloud solution.

Shure Achieves Sustainable Packaging Goals in 2023, on Track for 90% Recyclable and/or Renewable Packaging for New Products by 2025

In 2022, Shure announced aggressive goals to increase recyclable and/or renewable packaging for new products. Shure has achieved its goal to convert to 75 percent by 2023 and is on track to grow to 90 percent by 2025 and 100 percent by 2030 for new packaging. The goal for existing product packaging in 2025 is 75 percent recyclable and/or renewable.

Room acoustics is naturally often discussed in the hifi community, since the room you put your loudspeakers in will heavily influence the sound that reaches your ears, both at low and high frequencies. In these discussions the term "room gain" sometimes comes up. This article was inspired by Erik Wiederholtz (CTO of Perlisten Audio) and his interest in the topic, and he was kind enough to provide measurements and photos from his own listening room for a sealed subwoofer as well as for a vented subwoofer.
