Sensory Redefines Voice Control for Telly TVs

If you really want it, you can get it. Talk to control your TV, that is. And in full privacy. That’s what Sensory did for Telly, a very unusual company that offers “the smartest TV ever built”. Offer is the right term here, because Telly is free. And the company partnered with Sensory to implement far-field remote control using on-device speech recognition. This innovation was presented at CES 2025 and redefines what voice control can do, setting a new benchmark for privacy, speed, and user convenience.

75 million people in the US are now using a smart speaker, and more than half of them – 39 million – are using it to control their smart TV, video streamer or other TV device at least weekly. This finding comes from Strategy Analytics’ latest report, 2019 Smart Speaker User Survey – US Results, and is based on a survey of 1136 users of smart speakers carried out in July and August 2019.

Founded in 2002, Sonos is now present in more than 60 countries, and already supports dozens of streaming music providers. Still, the company’s networked home sound systems have remained a closed-garden concerning software and remote control integration. Now, Sonos wants to change all that and announced new partnerships with Amazon for voice control, a new level of software integration with Spotify, and control integration with AV control manufacturers such as Crestron, Lutron, Savant, Control4, and iPort, among others.

Texas Instruments announced new advanced voice remote control solutions as part of its SimpleLink ultra-low power platform. These solutions were created to help developers easily add ultra-low power Bluetooth low energy, ZigBee RF4CE or multi-standard connectivity to their designs for voice remote controls, TVs, set-top boxes, home entertainment centers and automation, wearables and smart speaker applications.
