Mycroft Ai Launches Mimic 3 Text-to-Speech Software for Voice Assistants

Mycroft AI, the startup company from Kansas City, MO that created a privacy-driven, open-source voice interface technology platform, announced the release of its latest text-to-speech (TTS) engine, Mimic 3. The open-source and fully customizable neural TTS software was designed to provide a natural sounding voice, with over two dozen languages and more than 100 different voice sets. It can run completely offline on low-end systems, including Raspberry Pi 4.

Volareo, a different type of smart speaker, launched on crowdfunding site Indiegogo. Starting from $99USD for the early bird special, Volareo is being introduced as “the 1st independent smart speaker supporting open source to integrate with blockchain streaming platforms,” “backed by blockchain technology and AI.” While that sequence of buzzwords doesn’t actually say much about what makes Volareo different, saying that it interfaces with platforms where artists are paid directly and immediately for their songs played, makes it much more interesting.
