Accurate High-Frequency Headphone Testing Right on Your Desk

Building on the success of the High-frequency Head and Torso Simulator Type 5128 – and by popular demand – Brüel & Kjær has released a new tabletop HATS version, Type 5128-B to support customers looking to test headphones right on their desk or in small anechoic chambers. Tabletop HATS is a torso-less head that is supported on a foot. Its adjustable neck makes it suitable for testing all types of headphones, and it can be used free standing on a desk, fitted on a tripod or on a turntable using a tripod mounting adapter. The head geometry complies with ITU-T Rec. P.58, IEC 60318-7 and ANSI S3.36-1985.

GRAS Sound & Vibration Joins Audio Precision in Battery Ventures’ Acoustic Test and Measurement Group

Denmark-Based GRAS Sound & Vibration (“GRAS”), the prestigious manufacturer of acoustic-measurement microphones, has reached an agreement with Battery Ventures, a global, technology-focused investment firm, to join its group of companies in the acoustic test and measurement market. GRAS will operate alongside U.S.-based Audio Precision, acquired by Battery Ventures in 2018. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

At the moment of release, these are the only T&M instruments that measure all specified RF tests up to Bluetooth LE 5.0 over the air, and are ready to support also the new LE Audio specification. This unique solution has already been submitted to the Bluetooth SIG for the specification of a new Bluetooth LE test mode.

Environmental noise impairs the intelligibility of received speech signals in headphones, mobile phones, in-vehicle hands-free terminals and in-car communication systems. In order to evaluate the influence of background noise on speech signals automatically and reproducibly, HEAD acoustics has developed “ABLE” (Assessment of Binaural Listening Effort), a method to predict perceived listening effort, available as a new option for the measuring and analysis software ACQUA.
