USB-IF Announces New USB4 Specification Supporting 80Gbps Performance

The USB Implementers Forum announced the publication of the USB4 Version 2.0 specification, a major update to enable USB 80Gbps performance over the USB Type-C cable and connector. The updated USB4 specification doubles the maximum aggregate bandwidth of USB to the benefit of higher-performance displays, storage, and USB-based hubs and docks. The USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery (USB PD) specifications have also been updated to support this higher level of data performance.

Bluetooth SIG Announces Completion of LE Audio Specifications

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the trade association that oversees Bluetooth technology, announced the completion of the full set of specifications that define LE Audio, the next generation of Bluetooth audio - originally announced in January 2020. The release of this set of specifications will finally enable manufacturers to design and release products supporting the full scope of improvements promised for the next-generation Bluetooth audio, including Auracast broadcast audio.

In order to ensure high quality wireless charging power transmitters, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has released the Qi 1.3 Wireless Charging specification with the extended power profile. This new specification created demand for high security silicon authentication devices for full-service support. In response, Microchip Technology announced the new industrial grade TrustFLEX ECC608 and the automotive grade Trust Anchor TA100 combined with Microchip secure key provisioning services for Qi 1.3 power transmitters.

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has recently released the Qi 1.3 specification that requires authentication for improved safety when transmitting up to 15W of power between a transmitter and a receiver. The USB Promoter Group announced the release of the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) Revision 3.1 specification, a major update to enable delivering up to 240W of power over the USB Type-C cable and connector.
